If you’re looking for a great place to spend the half-term holiday with the kids, then Tenerife in the Canary Islands is hard to beat.

Whatever time of year you go, the climate is warm and sunny, and so it makes a great choice for those holidays outside of the summer holidays – October and February half-term, for example.

The Canaries are situated off the north-west coast of Africa and are only a few hours’ flight from most countries in Europe. Tenerife is the largest of the islands and the one that receives the most tourists throughout the year. This really is a holiday island, with some superb resorts and attractions for visitors of all ages.

Probably the most lively resort on the whole island is Playa de las Americas, where you’ll find a huge selection of fantastic hotels like h10 Las Palmeras, many of which offer all-inclusive deals as well as half-board and bed and breakfast accommodation.

Staying in a big hotel you get the best of both worlds as they’re often located right by the beach but also have their own beautiful gardens with a number of swimming pools to choose from. You’ll also have many attractions like water parks and animal parks on the doorstep, so there’s no shortage of entertainment for the kids.

For things to do, there are plenty of options on Tenerife. You can get involved in practically every water sport you can think of down by the beach, but there’s also plenty of hiking and exploring to be done here.

Tenerife has quite a lush side to some of its interior but there are also the barren and dramatic landscapes of the Teide National Park to explore too. This is the location of Mount Teide, the world’s third largest volcano and a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can take a cable car ride up to the crater and then walk all around the rim of the crater. For the really energetic, it’s also possible to get a permit to climb the last few hundred feet to the summit, but the crater is more than enough for most visitors.

A week in Tenerife can be as busy or as peaceful as you choose to make it, and you can get some great prices on holidays there. Check it out today and make some half-term plans to look forward to.

Hawaii has got to be one of the most beautiful places in the world, and from golden shorelines to crystal blue waters, it’s a luxury destination for holidaymakers everywhere.

When it comes to visiting Hawaii, and the island of Oahu in particular, the tourist season falls between December and February, and the average temperature is a blistering 80 degrees Fahrenheit! This makes Oahu a tropical paradise of heavenly proportions, and it’s no wonder millions of people travel here every year to experience the amazing culture, exquisite food and stunning wildlife.

Sadly, Oahu isn’t the cheapest holiday destination, and unless you’re living the lifestyle of the rich and famous, you could find your cash drying up pretty quickly. Thankfully however, there are a number of amazing activities to experience on the island that won’t leave you penniless.

Oahu is the perfect environment to undertake healthy activities throughout the entire year, and from volcanic craters to lush green forests, there are some great places to stretch your legs and explore! Let’s take a look at some of the cheapest and most entertaining things to do in Oahu.

Hiking
Hiking is an amazing activity to try out on the island of Oahu, and there’s no doubt you’ll build up one hell of a sweat! The most popular spot to hike is on the South-eastern coast, called Diamond Head, and it’s a two mile trail that’s mostly paved to encourage tourists to explore the landscape.

Although the hike is moderately difficult, the views are absolutely unreal, and it takes you all the way to the west of the island. If you’re looking for something a little less popular however, then why not try out the Olomana trail?
Located near Kaiula, this hike is of an intermediate level, and consists of three peaks. At a mile longer than the Diamond Head trail, Olomana becomes very steep near the tops of the peaks, but once you’re there, you’ll realise it was well worth the effort.

Snorkeling
Snorkeling is another great (and cheap) activity to try out when you’re visiting the island of Oahu. Hanauma Bay is one of the most popular diving areas, and it can be found just east of Honolulu – admission is only $7.50! This price includes a mandatory educational film that explores the marine wildlife around Hanauma Bay, from sharks and sea snakes to tropical fish and exotic turtles.

If you’re looking for something a little less commercialized, however, there are many more small, independent snorkeling businesses that will happily take you around Electric Beach, a less well known shoreline. Benefiting from deep, crystal-clear water, you’ll be able to see the amazing marine life just metres below your feet!

Farmers Markets
This is one of the best places to experience in Oahu, not least because it’s free. The farmers markets on the island are full of culture, food, spices and materials, and because everything is caught, cooked and made locally, you’ll be paying rock bottom prices for the finest goods on in Hawaii!

On top of all these great and cheap things to do in Oahu, here is a tip for getting to Hawaii cheaply as well. Head over to the Cheapflights website where you can find cheap flights to Hawaii with their comparison tool. It will search various airlines for pricing on tickets to Hawaii, and tell you which is the cheapest, saving you lots of money.

London is the capital city of the United Kingdom, and has a rich history dating back approximately 2,000 years to its founding by the Romans. In modern times the city is a vibrant metropolis, with entertainment in London both varied and easy to find. So look for the best accommodations in Vacation Rentals People and spend your getaway here now.

Popular tourist destinations include visits to historical attractions, such as Buckingham Palace, Big Ben, the Tower of London and Downing Street, which houses the current Prime Minister.

The world-famous West End is the location for much of the arts-based entertainment and plays host to world film premieres as well as the city’s theatre district. Opera, ballet, plays and musicals are performed here in the various venues all year long, with famous stars appearing in many of the major productions.

However, it is as a sporting destination that London really excels, with a wide variety of sporting spectacles for tourists to enjoy.

The most popular sport in the city, as well as the whole of the United Kingdom, is football. London currently has five football teams in the English Premier League: Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Queens Park Rangers. The largest club stadium in the city is the Emirates Stadium, where Arsenal play their home matches and the Premier League season runs between the months of August and May. In addition the city also contains Wembley Stadium, the home stadium for the England national team, who play fixtures sporadically throughout the year.

The second most popular sport in London is cricket. Lord’s Cricket Ground is at the heart of London’s cricket scene, with the venue hosting the Twenty20 Cup, Minor Counties Cricket Championship and various other Championship finals throughout the year. The Oval is also home to the Surrey County Cricket Club and in late August or early September it traditionally hosts the final Test match of each summer season.

During the summer months, the city hosts the Wimbledon Championships, the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world, at the All England Club in south London. At the end of the year, tennis returns to the city as the ATP World Tour Finals are held at the O2 Arena.

London also has a well-established rugby union scene, with four of the twelve clubs in the Aviva Premiership having origins in the city. At present, only Harlequins still play in Greater London, with London Irish, Saracens and Wasps playing at football stadiums just outside the city boundaries, albeit, still within easy reach. In addition, the English national rugby stadium, Twickenham, is located to the south west of the city centre.

In 2012, London will host the Olympic games for the third time and in 2017 the World Championships in Athletics will also take place in the city. The Crystal Palace National Sports Centre contains an athletics track and is often use for national meetings, while London Capital represent the city in the British Basketball League.

London’s sporting scene is diverse and will offer you fantastic entertainment whatever sport you are interested in.

2012 is already shaping up to be a great year in music, and there’s no better way to celebrate than by experiencing the very best of it in pure, live form. Here are our top 5 musical festivals from around the world.

5: Lollapalooza (USA)
From an old word meaning “an extraordinary or unusual thing,” Lollapalooza definitely lives up to its name. It runs every year and books everyone who’s anyone in the modern music scene, including Metallica, Muse, and even Lady Gaga. It’s gotten so big they’ve created a Lollapalooza for South America!

Of course, if you’re going to South America, you should check out…

4: Rock in Rio (Brazil)
One of the largest music festivals in the world, Rock in Rio is a massive outpouring of music, culture, and good old-fashioned entertainment. Regularly drawing over a million music fans, it migrates between three countries – Brazil, Portugal, and Spain – and only seems to get bigger and louder each time. 2012 will kick off in Lisbon, Portugal, so be there or miss out!

3: Midi Modern Music Festival (China)
You might not expect a thriving rock scene from China, but the truth is that the students of Beijing Midi School of Music have been pulling together since 2000 to create an annual music fest that defies tradition and celebrates sound. It’s worth the trip, not only to experience up-and-coming artists from all around Asia, but to support the country’s efforts to break free of its restraints. It’s rocking for a good cause!

2: Roskilde Festival (Denmark)
Don’t let the foreign name scare you – Roskilde has been running since the 70s and gained such a reputation that bands literally beg for the chance to play in it. They face a lot of competition, of course. Bjork, Kanye West, and Nine Inch Nails are just a few of the artists who have graced this Dutch stage, and 2012 promises to draw even bigger names.

1: SonneMondSterne (Germany)
Where to begin? SonneMondSterne is one of the craziest festivals of the year, the kind where legends are born and holiday insurance hits a premium. You can dance, drink, party, or even swim to the music – the festivities are held right near a lake – and musicians and DJs are on rotation for 24-hour sound.

With big stars, wild parties and endless entertainment even of the non-music variety, SonneMondSterne is our #1 music festival that you just can’t miss.

What’s top of your wish list for a European summer holiday? Somewhere with a pool? Somewhere close to the beach? Or somewhere with sea view where you can enjoy a drink at sunset? Well, if you want all this without leaving a hole in your pocket, take a look at some of these places which promise budget fun in the sun.

Barcelona, Spain
For indecisive folk who fancy both beach and city break, Barcelona is a happy compromise. Barceloneta is the popular city beach within walking distance of the Gothic quarter. Alternatively, stay around Poble Nou for local restaurants, easy access to the beach and a short metro ride from the city centre. This way you get the best of both worlds with cultural attractions, seductive Barcelona nightlife as well as soaking up some sunshine. You might also like to consider a day trip along the coast to Sitges, with a bustling gay community as well as a pretty beach.

Where to Stay: Casa Gracia Barcelona Hostel
If you are considering summer in the city, top of your list should be air-conditioning or some outdoor space. With both air-conditioned shared and private rooms, the boutique Casa Gracia Barcelona Hostel not only delivers on gorgeous design, it has a charming tiled terrace too. It’s a perfect spot to start your night on the town so pick up a bottle of wine to enjoy at dusk or join other guests for paella on Mondays.

Berlin, Germany
It’s no secret that Germans love their beer and they have some rather lovely beer gardens where you can enjoy a quaff or two. Summer is the perfect time to sit outdoors and enjoy a cold Pils in Berlin in green, leafy and sunny surroundings. The explosive club scene relocates to the great outdoors and Museum Island becomes a major venue for concerts, dance events and open-air cinema. The palace gardens at Schloss Charlottenburg will be in full bloom and you can take in the French modelled design. For a short trip out of town, take the S-Bahn west to the Grunewald forest for swimming in the lake, walking, cycling or horse riding.

Where to Stay: Baxpax Downtown Hostel Hotel
The perfect place to keep cool in the city, this <a target="_blank" href=http://www.hostelbookers.com/hostels/germany/berlin/">cheap Berlin hotel offers travellers a sunny terrace where BBQs are hosted in the warmer months. The swimming pool is ideal for a quick dip and the Tiergarten Park is a short walk from the hotel.

Lisbon, Portugal
A good opportunity to combine city and beach break on your summer holiday, Lisbon can provide culture, nightlife and sunbathing rolled in to one. The nearby beaches fly the European Blue Flag for excellence and are popular with locals and tourists alike. At Guincho, why not try your hand at surfing, with their fantastically wild beach just a 25-minute train ride from Lisbon. The shadowy and historic areas of Alfama and the Barrio Alto offer tile-clad buildings and orange tree dotted plazas, great places for keeping cool when exploring the city. Take tram 28 for a 40-minute city tour and lean out the window of this antiquated machine to feel the wind in your hair. Nightlife gets off to a late start around 11 p.m. and crowds spill pleasingly onto the streets.

Where to Stay: Beria Mar
Just a few roads back from the shoreline, most rooms at Beria Mar hostel offer views across the Tagus river. The interior is bright and colorful and the surrounding area of Alfama is Lisbon’s historic quarter. They offer a free breakfast, lounge and games room.

Rome, Italy
Another top destination for anyone InterRailing in Europe in summer, Rome’s fascinating history draws many to admire the architectural vestiges of the Eternal City. Head to the Villa Borghese for romantic strolls in the city’s favorite green space. Bask in Rome’s fashionable coffee culture under a shady brolly and wander the cobbled streets on warm evenings when trattorias spill out on to the streets. Unfortunately, a splash in the Trevi Fountain was reserved for film star Anita Ekberg but you can keep cool attending one of the cities open-air concerts in summer or diving into a church. It’s also the perfect time to explore the sun blushed flowers at the Campo dei Fiori.

Where to Stay: Hotel Torre Rossa Park
On the outskirts of the city, a short walk form the pleasant Villa Doria Pamphilj park, this cheap hotel in Rome offers the best of both worlds: easy access to culture and nightlife but a welcome retreat from busy city life. Facilities include air-conditioning, a bar, and the beautifully designed patio area is the place to relax after a day of sightseeing.
