Updated database includes the entire road network and over 124,000 points of interests, enabling turn-by-turn guidance across Italy

CHICAGO, Feb. 1 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- NAVTEQ (NYSE:NVT) , a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has reached another milestone toward offering a full coverage map of Western Europe with the completion of a full coverage map of Italy.

With approximately 800,000 kilometers of roads, the updated database, released December 15, 2004 as part of the NAVTEQ's Q4 2004 database release, covers all 8,103 cities comprising the 20 regions and 103 provinces in Italy, the entire Italian road network from north to south including the isles of Sardinia and Sicily. In addition, the full coverage product includes over 124,000 Points of Interest such as approximately 8,900 hotels, 21,000 restaurants, 19,400 gas stations, 9,000 parking lots and 4,200 historical monuments.

To meet customer demand for a full coverage map of Italy, NAVTEQ leveraged a highly skilled team of field analysts and database engineers for the project. This team drove approximately one million kilometers over the last year to complete the full coverage map.

The full coverage map of Italy is now available to NAVTEQ's customers and business partners for integration into consumer and business applications*.

"Full coverage of Italy has always been one of our goals," says Denis Cohen, Executive Vice President - Sales & Marketing, Europe for NAVTEQ. "We are well on our way to offering full coverage products, at our high quality standard, for all of Western Europe to meet the needs of our customers offering products in this region."

* Due to the complexity of the processes required to compile and integrate NAVTEQ maps into navigation systems and location-based applications, it may take up to a year before consumers will have access to these new maps for their navigation systems.
