Hotel 5A Becomes Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue

Property is Centrally Located in Midtown Manhattan

NEW YORK, Feb. 2 /PRNewswire/ — Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) announced that Hotel 5A (formerly the Clarion Fifth Avenue) in Manhattan has been officially converted to the Courtyard New York Manhattan/Fifth Avenue. The 189-room hotel is located at 3 East 40th Street, just off of New York City’s most famous avenue. It will undergo a comprehensive renovation that will reduce the number of rooms to 185. In the renovation process, four new suites will be created, in addition to a meeting room for 10-15 guests, a laundry, a business center, and Courtyard by Marriott’s signature 24-Hour Market. The renovation begins in June 2005 and is expected to be completed later in the year. The property is owned by DiamondRock Hospitality Company. Marriott International will manage the hotel under a long-term agreement.

“This hotel offers a great central location where business and leisure travelers can work, play and relax,” said Jay J. Philipson, the hotel’s general manager. “We’re delighted at the opportunity to bring another Courtyard by Marriott to Manhattan.”

Just steps away from Fifth Avenue, the property is within walking distance of key Midtown destinations, including the historic New York Public Library and Bryant Park. It’s a 10-minute walk to Broadway theaters, as well as New York City’s garment district on the west side. Leisure travelers will enjoy easy access to Lord & Taylor’s flagship department store at Fifth Avenue and 38th Street, as well as smaller Fifth Avenue shops.

The 30-story hotel features seven guest rooms per floor, providing a residential boutique-style ambiance. All rooms have high-speed Internet access, free to Courtyard by Marriott guests.

Dining options include the Salmon River restaurant, located at street level with a street entrance, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Upon completion of renovations, the hotel will also offer Courtyard by Marriott’s 24-Hour Market for small meals, snacks and beverages.
