InterContinental Hotels Group Asks Guests to Give 'From the Heart' This Valentine's Day
Hotels and Guests Around the World Join in Support of Tsunami Relief Efforts
ATLANTA, Feb. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- InterContinental Hotels Group (NYSE:IHG) (ADRs), (IHG), the world's largest and most global hotel company, today announced "From the Heart," a global initiative to raise funds for Tsunami relief and recovery. From Feb. 14 - 21, participating IHG hotels across the world will be reaching out to their guests to donate $2 or more per stay to support UNICEF's Tsunami relief and recovery efforts. For each donation up to $2 from guests, participating hotels will match up to $2.
To date, InterContinental Hotels Group has raised more than $420,000 through donations from employees, franchisees, Priority Club Rewards members and the company's own donation of $125,000. In just one month, Priority Club Rewards members from across the world donated more than 17 million points.
"At IHG, our family consists of corporate employees, hotel staff, franchisees and guests, and we have a tremendous opportunity to reach out to our entire community worldwide," said Steve Porter, president, the Americas, InterContinental Hotels Group. "IHG is committed to making a difference for Tsunami victims."
'From the Heart' has the potential to raise more than $1 million in donations for Tsunami relief and recovery. This initiative supports IHG's ongoing community efforts towards UNICEF, which is the official global charity organization for the Group.
"We know that the recovery effort in Southeast Asia and East Africa will take a very long time and we must continue to support UNICEF's efforts as the recovery continues," Porter added.
UNICEF has delivered tens of millions of dollars of life-saving relief to the tsunami zone and continues to support basic recovery. UNICEF has also begun playing a role for the longer-term reconstruction of vital services for children, including the opening of schools so that children can resume living life as normally as possible.
The IAHI, The Owners' Association of IHG, has tapped the strength of its 2,700 members behind 'From the Heart.'
"This program has tremendous potential, and the IAHI is excited to participate in IHG's continued relief efforts," said David Shamoian, chairman, the IAHI. "With the support of the largest network of hotels in the world, we can make a real difference in the lives of those in need."
