AOH Salutes Families of the 69th Infantry

NEW YORK, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The Ancient Order of Hibernians announced today that Prudential Financial, Inc. will serve as the title sponsor of a special St. Patrick's Day week salute to the families of the 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry of the New York Army National Guard, known as "The Fighting 69th or The Irish Brigade."

The fundraising drive will be launched during a St. Patrick's Day benefit to be held at the historic 69th Regiment Armory, located at Lexington Avenue and 26th Street, NYC on Thursday, March 10, 2005, at 6:00 p.m. This event helps to kickoff the celebrations recognizing the contributions of the Irish to New York. Featured entertainment will include Irish tenor Ronan Tynan, NYPD Emerald Society Bagpipers, the Gus Hayes Band, Cunningham Brothers and Irish step dancers.

Throughout the evening, guests will also have an opportunity to reflect upon the 13 members of the Fighting 69th who have made the ultimate sacrifice and to demonstrate their support for the families.

Corporate, individual sponsorship and donation opportunities are still available. Seating is limited and tickets are necessary. To reserve tickets and sponsorships, call (914) 524-0046. Individual donations should be made payable to the Friends of the Fighting 69th and mailed to P.O. Box 7473, New York, NY 10150-7473 by March 15. For additional benefit information, visit http://www.69threception.org/.

All proceeds from the St. Patrick's Day benefit will help to support the programs and services that touch the lives of the more than 700 families connected to the Regiment.

Established in New York in 1836, the Ancient Order of Hibernians host annual events to raise funds for charity and provide a showcase for the positive contributions of the Irish.

Originally the Second Regiment of Irish Volunteers, the Regiment was accepted as part of the New York State Militia and designated as the 69th Regiment on October 12, 1851. As in the case today, most of the citizen- soldiers throughout the history of the 69th are working men.
