PA Governor Rendell's Chief of Staff John H. Estey Comments on Convention Center Expansion; Meeting with Chairman Nutter
HARRISBURG, Pa., Feb. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Pennsylvania Governor Edward G. Rendell's Chief of Staff John H. Estey issued the following statement today after what he described as a productive meeting with Pennsylvania Convention Center Authority Chairman Michael Nutter to discuss the expansion of the Center:
"After meeting with Chairman Nutter today to discuss a range of issues involving the Convention Center expansion, I am pleased that we are moving in the right direction and feel confident that we made progress toward our mutual goal of implementing plans for the expansion of the PA Convention Center, making it the premier Convention facility on the East Coast.
"In anticipation of the Convention Center Authority Board entering into a consulting contract with SMG before the end of the month, I communicated to Chairman Nutter Governor Rendell's intention to release approximately $16 million to complete the architectural and engineering drawings and specifications; provide construction and operational review and estimate and prepare other legal and insurance documents necessary to bid and award the construction of the project. Our hope is that the SMG contract will be formalized and that this initial funding for the expansion can be released within two weeks.
"We further agreed to meet regularly to discuss the progress of the project. Governor Rendell remains committed to the expansion project and his hope is to build on these important first steps and begin property acquisition and construction as swiftly as possible."
