CLEARWATER, Fla., Feb. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- The newly launched Moorings 4000 has been honored for innovative achievement by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) and judges from Boating Writers International. Judges awarded the NMMA Innovation Award to The Moorings 4000 in the Sailboat category at the 2005 Miami International Boat Show Media Breakfast, held at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

The Moorings 4000 is the latest generation in cruising catamarans and focuses on performance, comfort and offers an abundance of outdoor space to capitalize on sailing in the tropics. This brand new design is the fruit of a close collaboration between The Moorings, builders Robertson and Caine, and Morrelli & Melvin (designers of high performance cats such as PlayStation and the world record setting Cheyenne catamaran). "We are delighted to accept this prestigious reward. The Moorings 4000 epitomizes our strategy to offer comfortable cruising cats with excellent performance levels," explained Lex Raas, President of The Moorings.

The 4000 cat uses a single-level bridgedeck. After ascending two transom steps there are no further changes in floor level throughout the cockpit or saloon, which is accomplished by utilizing a structural grid under the cockpit, eliminating the need for an aft beam bulkhead. The boat is safer and user friendly. "This is unusual in a catamaran," said judge and freelance writer Zuzana Prohaska, "because most catamarans have cross beams that crews must step over to get from bow to stern. The Moorings 4000 catamaran has been designed without these beams by using an innovative honeycomb floor that stiffens the entire hull and allows it to be one level throughout the yacht."

Built in Cape Town, South Africa, the new Moorings 4000 features a large cockpit with an outside dining area and ergonomic seating for up to eight guests, all protected by a functional hard-top bimini, fitted as standard. The galley-up design incorporates a spacious saloon area and aft-facing galley with a cocktail bar and serving window overlooking the adjoining cockpit area. Accommodations include four double cabins and two large heads with separate shower stalls. The yacht is available for charter in the Caribbean, Mediterranean, Bahamas, and Seychelles.

The Moorings provides flotillas, Bareboat (sail-it-yourself) and Signature (with professional captain and chef) vacations in some of the most desirable locations in North America, Caribbean, Bahamas, Mexico, South Pacific, Mediterranean, Scandinavia, and Indian Ocean.
