Culinary Futures Will Be on the Line at Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) 2005 Cooking Competitions For Scholarships
Over $2,000,000 in Culinary Scholarships to be Awarded Nationwide
NEW YORK, March 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Student chefs from public high schools across the country are hard at work sharpening their skills as they prepare to compete in the Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) 2005 Cooking Competitions for Scholarships.
This spring, C-CAP will be awarding $2,000,000 in scholarships, enabling over 200 at-risk high school students to continue their culinary education and realize their dreams of becoming professional chefs.
Beginning in March and concluding in June, cooking competitions and awards ceremonies will be held in eight cities including: Tidewater, Virginia on March 4/7; Chicago, IL on March 12/15; Phoenix, Arizona on April 8/10; New York City on April 12/May 3; Philadelphia, PA on April 22/28; and Los Angeles, CA on May 20/23; Boston, MA on May 17; and Washington, D.C. to be announced.
The cooking competitions are the culmination of the year-long program which introduces students to new cuisines, teaches basic cooking skills and techniques and helps them find meaningful careers as chefs, restaurant managers and hotel administrators.
The teens will be considered for a range of scholarships, valued at $500 to $80,000, to some of the most prestigious culinary schools in the country including the nationally recognized Culinary Institute of America, Johnson & Wales, The Art Institutes and New England Culinary Institute. In addition, there are generous scholarships for premier local culinary colleges. Students will also have the opportunity to receive cash awards to help defray the costs for books, supplies, housing and other expenses.
According to Richard Grausman, President and Founder of C-CAP, since founding C-CAP in 1990, the number of high school students interested in careers in the food service industry has increased dramatically along with the skills required. "We are expecting many talented young people to compete in this year's competitions and anticipate that the panels of chefs will be evaluating the culinary stars of the future."
