Continental Airlines Announces Nonstop Service From Bangor, Maine to Its New York Hub

HOUSTON, March 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL) today announced that it will inaugurate twice-daily nonstop service between Bangor, Maine (BGR) and Continental’s New York hub, Newark Liberty International Airport, effective June 9, 2005. The new service complements existing daily nonstop service between Liberty International and Portland, Maine.

The roundtrip Continental Express service will be operated with the smooth, quiet Embraer ERJ-145 aircraft, featuring comfortable leather seating, along with advance seat assignments and OnePass frequent flyer miles that can be redeemed on Continental and partner airlines.

“Continental continues to listen to our customers and deliver the service that they demand,” said a Continental spokesperson. “Nonstop flights connecting northern Maine to the New York area’s only major hub will provide even more flexibility to our customers as they plan their travel to New York, the nation’s most important business market, and beyond to the hundreds of domestic and international cities served directly via Continental and Newark Liberty International Airport.”

The schedule is as follows:
From To Departs Arrives
BANGOR NEW YORK 6:45 a.m. 8:12 a.m.
3:00 p.m. 4:27 p.m.

NEW YORK BANGOR 1:05 p.m. 2:24 p.m.
8:30 p.m. 9:49 p.m.

The afternoon departure from Bangor and early afternoon return flight from New York will end on October 31, 2005 due to the seasonal nature of the route, while the morning departure from Bangor and evening return from New York will be operated year round.

Travelers flying to New York will arrive at Newark Liberty International Airport, the New York-area airport most convenient to midtown Manhattan and northern New Jersey. High-frequency commuter rail and Amtrak service at Liberty International Airport takes customers to New York’s Penn Station in less than 30 minutes, and offers connections to points throughout New Jersey. In addition, Continental offers on-airport connections via Amtrak to Philadelphia, Wilmington, Del., and Stamford and New Haven, Conn.

For customers traveling beyond New York, Continental offers more flights to more cities from the New York area than any airline in the world. The airline’s Terminal C at Liberty Airport, which includes DKNY and Kenneth Cole department stores and a variety of high-end and quick-service restaurants, has been ranked highest among U.S. airports in terminal concessions.

“The addition of Continental Express service to Newark is a wonderful achievement for the Bangor International Airport and our region,” said Bangor Mayor Frank Farrington. “We are pleased to be selected by Continental for this new service as it provides valuable connections through Continental’s hub to domestic and international locations. I am confident our community will eagerly support the new service and prove it to be a tremendous success.”
