Hungry? Southwest Airlines Takes Care of Its Customers With Free Inflight Snack and Beverage Service

Complimentary Snack and Beverage Service Available on All Southwest Flights

DALLAS, March 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — While other airlines are offering less than peanuts, Southwest Airlines (NYSE:LUV) continues to give Customers free, name-brand snacks and beverages on every flight. Southwest currently serves 18 different complimentary beverages, as well as peanuts or pretzels on every flight, and provides popular Snack Packs on longhaul flights for free.

Beginning in April, Southwest Airlines will offer Nabisco(R) 100 Calorie Packs of Cheese Nips in its Snack Pack for Customers on longhaul flights. As Customers look for smarter ways of snacking, this new option contains just 100 calories, no cholesterol, zero grams trans fat, and only three grams of fat per serving.

“With the majority of airlines cutting back on inflight meal service, Southwest continues to offer Customers complimentary snacks and beverages on all of our flights,” said Donna Conover, Southwest Airlines Executive Vice President of Customer Operations. “We are also excited about having a healthier snack option available to our Customers. We listened to their requests, and we are making changes to our snack offerings.”

Southwest Customers who travel on flights of less than 450 miles, for example a flight between Baltimore/Washington and Hartford/Springfield, receive peanuts or pretzels. Customers traveling on flights between 450 and 1,120 miles, for example a flight between Albuquerque and Portland, receive a Nabisco brand cookie pack. Customers traveling on flights between 1,121 and 2,289 miles, for example a flight between Los Angeles and Chicago Midway, receive a full Snack Pack, which includes a boxed trio of packaged goodies — Golden Oreos(R), Ritz Cheese Crackers(R) and Jello(R) Fruit Snacks. For those Customers traveling on flights of 2,290 miles or more, for example a flight between Philadelphia and Oakland, a Snack Pack and a salty cracker snack is served. Of course, complimentary soft drinks, water, juice, and coffee are available on all flights. Select beer, wine and alcoholic beverages are available for purchase.

Southwest Airlines, the nation’s largest carrier in terms of domestic passengers enplaned (according to DOT data for the third quarter of 2004), currently serves 60 airports in 59 cities in 31 states. Based in Dallas, Southwest operates 2,900 flights a day and has 32,000 employees systemwide. The carrier will begin service to Pittsburgh on May 4, 2005.
