Need a Filling in Fiji or a Crown in Croatia? Delta Dental Has You Covered in 200 Countries

OKEMOS, Mich., Jan. 25 /PRNewswire/ — Access to dental treatment is now available worldwide for Delta Dental members while traveling or working abroad. The benefit is offered by the Delta Dental Plans of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana and provides access to dentists in 200 countries located on nearly every continent.

The special coverage, at no additional premium cost to the employee or employer, is offered through an agreement with International SOS Assistance, Inc., which provides Delta Dental’s members access to an expert panel of dental professionals. International SOS is the world’s largest medical assistance company, as well as the leading provider of remote site medical services.

“Finding dental help in other countries can be a challenging experience, especially if travelers or workers are unfamiliar with the language or customs,” said Dr. Thomas J. Fleszar, president and chief executive officer of the affiliated Delta Dental Plans of Michigan, Ohio and Indiana. “We are pleased to be able to offer one-call assistance around the world, from Andorra to Venezuela.”

While outside the U.S., members simply dial International SOS collect at 215-942-8226 to schedule an appointment through an English-speaking operator. The operators are available 24/7. Members must identify themselves as a Delta Dental enrollee when they call. Members can also access a directory of dentists through Delta Dental’s online Consumer Toolkit (http://www.consumertoolkit.com/ ).

When service is provided, members must pay for their treatment and get a detailed receipt of the services performed, including identification of the tooth or teeth that were treated. The receipt should also indicate whether charges were billed in U.S. dollars or local currency. Once claims are submitted to Delta Dental, members will be reimbursed according to the terms and conditions of their existing Delta Dental coverage. In most cases, that means both emergency and routine treatment will be covered.

Delta Dental Plan of Michigan, with its affiliates in Ohio and Indiana, is the leading group dental benefits provider in the Midwest and paid out approximately $1.3 billion in 2004 for dental care for 5.1 million members. The tri-state operation is ISO 9001 certified — an international standard of excellence and quality — and its call center holds the prestigious BenchmarkPortal Certification given in conjunction with the Center for Customer-Driven Quality located at Purdue University. The certification recognizes the call center as a “Certified Center of Excellence.”
