First Family Makes Sam's Town Hotel and Casino Their Home Away From Home in Shreveport
President Makes Stop on March 11th in Route to Centenary College
SHREVEPORT, La., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Less than one year into operation, Sam's Town Hotel and Casino Shreveport was honored to play host to both President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush.
In September 2004, the First Lady traveled to Shreveport to campaign for then United States Senatorial Candidate David Vitter. Mrs. Bush elected to spend the evening with Sam's Town based on the reputation of the property. The First Lady was elated by her world-class entertainment experience. She informed White House officials that Sam's Town Hotel and Casino Shreveport runs "the best operation" she has seen.
A large number of Shreveport Police, Caddo Sheriff Deputies, and Secret Service Agents converged on the property around 8 am. President Bush traveled by motorcade shortly after arriving at Barksdale Air Force Base around noon. Employees and guests eagerly awaited the grand entrance in hopes to catch a glimpse of the President.
Mr. Bush was able to unwind in style before heading off to speak at Centenary College. Exercise equipment was delivered to the room to allow for a quick work out. Sam's Town Executive Chef Odran Campbell was on stand by to prepare any dish the President may have requested.
Senior Vice President and General Manager Thomas A. Roberts was on hand to greet President Bush. "It is a great honor to meet President Bush and welcome him to Shreveport and Sam's Town. We had the opportunity to chat about the gaming industry as well as the role of Sam's Town in the local gaming market," said Roberts.
