NAVTEQ Continues Mapping of Eastern Europe

Field team complete NAVTEQ’s first digital map for Poland and Slovenia

CHICAGO, Jan. 25 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — NAVTEQ (NYSE:NVT) , a leading global provider of digital maps for navigation systems and location-based solutions, is expanding its Eastern European database with the addition of two more countries. For the first time, NAVTEQ customers will now have digital map data for Poland and Slovenia at their disposal*. In addition to data for North America and Western Europe, NAVTEQ already offers map data for the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Greece. The company is also planning to release digital map data for large towns and major roads in Croatia and the three Baltic countries, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, over the coming months.

In Poland, the field researchers have recorded a total of over 13,300 kilometres (km) of roads, including detailed information on the Warsaw area and approximately 9,000 km of the main roads to neighbouring Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia. The map also contains useful information for those travelling in Poland with over 1,900 Points of Interest (POIs) in over 46 categories, such as hotels, restaurants, petrol stations and tourist attractions.

The new map of Slovenia will provide detailed map data for the Ljubljana area. Overall, NAVTEQ’s field researchers have recorded more than 1,450 kilometres of roads. In addition the data also includes more than 610 kilometres of the major roads linking Slovenia to neighbouring Italy, Austria, Croatia and Hungary. There are also 279 Points of Interest (POIs), offering useful tips and information on restaurants, hotels, museums and petrol stations.

* Due to the complexity of the processes required to compile and integrate NAVTEQ maps into navigation systems and location-based applications, it may take up to a year before consumers will have access to these new maps for their navigation systems.
