The Only Airline With Direct Flights To South Africa Launches Third US Gateway

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., March 15 /PRNewswire/ — South African Airways, South Africa’s flagship airline and the continent’s most awarded carrier, has announced that beginning July 2005, it will launch new direct service between Washington Dulles International Airport and Johannesburg International Airport in South Africa.

This new route features four flights a week from the Washington Dulles gateway, adding to South African Airways’ current daily flights from New York’s JFK International Airport and Atlanta’s Hartsfield – Jackson International Airport. Service from Johannesburg to Washington will also operate four days a week. The addition of the Washington Dulles route will increase South African Airways’ flight frequency from the US to South Africa to a total of 18 flights a week.

“Our North American routes have shown tremendous growth and the addition of a third service between North America and South Africa provides an ideal opportunity for expanding our global route network,” said Phillip Bekker, Senior Vice President – Americas for South African Airways.

“We see a continued increase in the demand for travel to South Africa and this new direct service provides business and government travelers in the Washington metro area with the fastest, most direct route to South Africa and convenient connections to destinations across the continent,” said Bekker.

The new weekly service will operate from Washington Dulles on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, with return service from Johannesburg on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday. The flights between Washington Dulles and Johannesburg will also include a brief operational fuel stop in Accra, Ghana.
