Visible from I-44, the bright blue and yellow, checkerboard designed Tornado will resemble a 60-ft tall, household funnel resting on its side, but those embarking on the adventure will be doing anything but resting! Thrill-seekers will board 4-person, cloverleaf shaped rafts 75-ft. up in the air before beginning their ride down a 132-ft. long tunnel! Some 5,000 gallons of water sends riders whirling and spinning back and forth, from side to side as they slide into the 60-ft diameter funnel! Finally, after weathering the turbulence, guests splash through a waterfall and into a catch pool below!
"It's a rush to be able to offer our guests such an exciting and unique experience," states David Roemer, vice president and general manager Six Flags St. Louis, "but the real reward is knowing what a rush the guests will feel when they ride this extreme water attraction!" Tornado is the first major addition to Hurricane Harbor, which opened in 1999. Tornado joins a host of tube and speed slides along with a wave pool, lazy river and kids area making Hurricane Harbor the premier water park in the Midwest and the only free water park with theme park admission!
The Tornado has already landed at three Six Flags parks and received great reviews by the park guests! The ride has also received other accolades including the amusement industry's 2003 Golden Ticket Award for Best Waterpark Ride and the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions 2003 Best New Product Award in the Waterpark Category!
