FAA Says Delays Will Increase as 200 Million Fly This Summer
RICHMOND, Va., May 27 /PRNewswire/ — A quarter of all airline flights were delayed in the first three months of 2005 and that number is expected to grow this summer according to government officials. Domestic airlines are estimating that they will carry over 200 million passengers this summer and expect significant delays reported Marion Blakely, Federal Aviation Administration Administrator, at a hearing yesterday before a U.S. Senate Aviation Subcommittee. Access America, a leading provider of travel insurance and assistance services, urges summer travelers to purchase travel insurance – especially those policies which cover travel delays and baggage delays.
“A vacation is supposed to be fun, relaxing and filled with memories to last a lifetime. Travel insurance can help protect those vacation memories, even when a long delay or other inconvenience threatens them,” says Beth Godlin, Senior Vice President of Travel Markets at Access America. “Summer travel often involves kids, so parents should plan for the unexpected.”
The Travel Delay benefit offered on Access America Classic and Air Ticket Protector covers additional meals and lodging expenses that may be incurred due to a significant delay. Baggage Delay benefits will typically cover the cost of clothing and toiletries that are needed until your bags can be located.
