AirTran Airways Begins New Daily Nonstop Flights From Charlotte

Jake Delhomme Helps Airline with First of Many Charlotte Touch-Downs

ORLANDO, Fla., May 4 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI) , today launched new, daily nonstop service from Charlotte Douglas International Airport to Atlanta and Baltimore/Washington, further expanding the low-fare carrier’s reach to more than 45 cities nationwide. To celebrate the completion of its newest route, AirTran Airways teamed up with Carolina Panthers’ Jake Delhomme to hold an inaugural event at Charlotte Douglas International Airport this morning.

The highlight of the event came as Delhomme opened AirTran Airways’ gate in an unusual ribbon-cutting ceremony. The star quarterback completed a deep pass through a specially made banner that signified the end of high fares in Charlotte. Delhomme also was named an honorary AirTran Airways’ Captain for his efforts.

Also on hand for the inaugural event were AirTran Airways’ Director of Marketing Tad Hutcheson, Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory, Airport Director Jerry Orr and representatives from the Charlotte business community.

“AirTran Airways is pleased to start service and bring much-needed fare relief to Charlotte area travelers,” said Tad Hutcheson, AirTran Airways’ director of marketing. “For years this market has been a victim of some of the highest fares in the country, and we’re excited to bring our high-quality, low-fare service to this growing area.”

At the event, Mayor McCrory welcomed AirTran Airways to Charlotte, “We are thrilled that AirTran has brought their great low-fare service to our local travelers. We welcome their affordable options to more than 45 business and leisure destinations across the country.”
