ORLANDO, Fla., Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI) , today announced that it will be a presenting sponsor for the Georgia Aquarium, which has been labeled the largest aquarium in the world and is slated to open November 23, 2005.
“AirTran Airways is proud to be part of such a monumental project here in Atlanta, home of our hub and base of operations. We really appreciate the Atlanta community, and we wanted to help make the Georgia Aquarium a huge success locally and nationally, so we are honored to be one of the presenting sponsors of the world’s largest aquarium,” said Robert L. Fornaro, AirTran Airways’ president and chief operating officer and a member of the Georgia Aquarium board of directors. Over 5,000 AirTran Airways Crew Members are based in Georgia.
“Our sponsors are world-class companies with a number of similarities,” said Bernie Marcus, Home Depot founder and benefactor of the Georgia Aquarium. “They are leading corporate citizens … they have strong leadership … they know the value of advertising and promotion … and they are successful financially. We knew they understood what a remarkable opportunity this would be, for downtown, for the city of Atlanta and for the state of Georgia, but because they have the marketing savvy to understand that their participation would enable them to expose their brand and their products to the millions of people who visit the Aquarium each year.”
The new Georgia Aquarium located near Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta will be home to more than 100,000 fish in more than eight million gallons of water. One habitat alone has more than six million gallons of water and was built specifically to accommodate whale sharks, the largest fish in the world.
