- 10th consecutive recognition for airline's maintenance division -

ORLANDO, Fla., May 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- AirTran Airways, a subsidiary of AirTran Holdings, Inc. (NYSE:AAI) , today announced that the airline's maintenance division has been recognized for the tenth consecutive year by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) with its Aircraft Maintenance Technician (AMT) Diamond Certificate of Excellence Award.

"This recognition reaffirms what we've known for a long time, that our mechanics are among the best in the business," said Bob Fornaro, AirTran Airways President and Chief Operating Officer. "On behalf of all 6,400 Crew Members at our airline, I congratulate our maintenance division on this well- earned distinction."

To qualify for the recognition, half of an airline's total maintenance locations must earn a certificate of excellence for exceeding the FAA's required participation levels. Crew Members from all five of AirTran Airways' maintenance stations in Atlanta, Baltimore, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, Orlando, and Tampa participated in this training.

A "Diamond Certificate of Excellence" is the highest honor, requiring a minimum of 25 percent of a maintenance location's mechanics to participate. In fact, 292 of AirTran Airways' 330 maintenance personnel participated.

"Nothing is more important to our airline than safety, and these mechanics live that motto on an everyday basis," said Steve Kolski, AirTran Airways' Senior Vice President of Operations. "They are charged with ensuring that all of the FAA's regulations and safety practices are met with the strictest adherence, and this honor demonstrates that dedication."

AirTran Airways, one of America's largest low-fare airlines with 6,400 friendly, professional Crew Members, operates over 500 daily flights to 47 destinations. The airline's hub is at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, where it is the second largest carrier. AirTran Airways recently added the fuel-efficient Boeing 737-700 aircraft to create America's youngest all-Boeing fleet. The airline is also the first carrier to install XM Satellite Radio on a commercial aircraft. For reservations or more information, visit http://www.airtran.com/ (America Online Keyword: AirTran).
