ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Alaska Airlines resumed flights to and from Anchorage, Alaska, this morning after canceling overnight flights as a safety precaution due to the pattern of ash at altitude created by the Mt. Augustine volcano. Anchorage flight departures and arrivals resumed following sunrise today, when the airline's visual evaluation of the ash pattern confirmed safe flying conditions.

"Now that flights have resumed, we are working diligently to reaccommodate passengers whose original flights were canceled," said Bill MacKay, Alaska's senior vice president for Alaska. MacKay noted the airline has a special policy in place to assist passengers whose schedules have been impacted by the volcano's activity.

Alaska Airlines continues to monitor the volcano and ash conditions and may make additional flight schedule changes if conditions change. Travelers are advised to check the status of flights at alaskaair.com or 1-800-ALASKAAIR.
