Airline Wins Cellars in the Sky Award for Best Business Class Fortified or Sweet Wine

FORT WORTH, Texas, Jan. 31 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Corks are popping at American Airlines. Today American Airlines was awarded the Cellars in the Sky 2005 Best Business Class Fortified or Sweet Wine by Business Traveller and Wine International magazines. American Airlines featured premium class wine, Emilio Lustau La Plaza Vieja, won Best Business Class Fortified or Sweet Wine. The airline also earned third place in the First Class White Wine category for its Dry Creek Vineyard Chardonnay 2002.

For Cellars in the Sky, 30 airlines entered a selection of their finest wines. After a two-day blind taste testing of more than 9,000 different wines, organized by Wine International Magazine and the International Wine Challenge, the winners were announced today at the Business Travel Show in London. The awards were presented by Charles Metcalfe MW of Wine International Magazine.

"American is committed to becoming the industry leader for its premium cabin service and we take great pride in featuring fine wines as part of the inflight dining experience," said Mary McKee, American's Managing Director of Inflight Products. "Our attention to detail sets us apart from other airlines and provides our customers with a wide variety of quality wine selections they can savor at 30,000 feet. We're delighted to win this award acknowledging our fine wines and it is a credit to American's employees, as well as our wine expert."

American Airlines selects fine wines from the major wine growing regions of the world and, at any given time, has more than 60 wines available on its flights. The airline's fine wine selection is chosen by retired Purdue University Professor of Enology and professional wine consultant, Dr. Richard Vine.

In an effort to bring customers the finest wines available in First and Business Class, American maintains 15 different wine lists, specially selected for various routes. In addition, American changes the wine list regularly and produces an online pamphlet describing each route's selections in detail.
