American Airlines and American Eagle Employees Donate $60,000 to UNICEF's Continuing Tsunami Relief Efforts
NEW YORK, July 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Today, Gerard Arpey, Chairman and CEO of American Airlines, on behalf of American Airlines and American Eagle employees, presented a check for $60,000 to Charles Lyons, President of the US Funds for UNICEF. Representing AMR employees were Jennifer Proctor, Manager of Corporate Citizenship, and Vera Holowczyk from the JFK Employee Recreation Committee.
"These funds, donated by individual employees of American, will aid the next phase of UNICEF's programs for tsunami relief in South Asia, continuing care for the most vulnerable in the worst natural disaster in living memory," said Lyons.
At the presentation, held at the phase one opening of American's new international terminal at JFK Airport, Lyons presented a plaque, thanking Arpey and the company employees for this donation and for their generosity throughout the relationship UNICEF has had with American, which spans over eleven years.
Today's donation, a significant potion of which was raised by JFK employees, is part of a larger employee fundraising effort in response to December's terrible tsunami in South Asia. UNICEF was among three recipient organizations which received donations designated for tsunami relief efforts, the Red Cross International Response Fund and Airline Ambassadors were also included.
