(Bayfield, WI) Bayfield's Apple Festival (Oct. 6-8) celebrating its 45th Anniversary in 2006 has been named to the list of the "Top Ten Autumn Festivals in North America" by the Society of American Travel Writers (SATW). SATW is the preeminent professional organization of travel communicators whose 1200 + members include travel editors, staff writers, columnists, publishers, photographers, freelance writers, TV, radio and film producers and other travel industry professionals.

Bayfield's Apple Festival is only one of three selected from the "Midwest", joining Applejack Festival (Sept. 16-17) in Nebraska City, Nebraska) and the Indiana Covered Bridge Festival (Oct. 13—22) in Rockville Indiana.

The other seven top ten festivals include: Oktoberfest by the Bay. Oct. 12--15. San Francisco, "Ding" Darling Days. Oct. 8--14. Sanibel Island, Fl, Keene Pumpkin Festival. Oct. 21. Keene, N.H., Albuquerque (N.M) International Balloon Fiesta. Oct. 6—15, The Woolly Worm Festival. Oct. 21 & 22. Banner Elk, N.C., Pumpkin People Festival, October. Kentville, Nova Scotia, Canada, and Mountain State Forest Festival. Sept. 30--Oct. 8. Elkins, West Virginia.

Bayfield's popular festival typically attracts more than 60,000 visitors to the picturesque town of 686 people built on a hillside overlooking the Apostle Islands. The 2006 Apple Festival will feature: Over 45 orchards and food booths selling Bayfield's apples, apple desserts and delicacies all three days.

¨ Bayfield's own Big Top Chautauqua performers on the grandstand stage with songs from their celebrated shows, "Riding the Wind", "Riverpants" and "Old Minnesota" on Saturday and Sunday.

¨ A kids' carnival with games, rides and favorite foods.

¨ More than 150 arts and crafts booths.

¨ A Venetian Boat Parade of glimmering boats decorated with lights Saturday evening.

¨ The annual grand parade on Sunday featuring Bayfield's exclusive 600 member "Mass Band" marching down Rittenhouse Avenue playing "On Wisconsin".

¨ The annual Apple Dumpling Gang contest for children.

¨ Senior Social in Lakeside Pavilion.

¨ Apple pie and dessert contest and sampling on Thursday evening.

¨ Bus shuttles for easy parking in area orchards.

¨ Traditional fish boil dinner on Saturday afternoon at Lakeside Pavilion followed by a Saturday evening dance.

¨ Ongoing street performers throughout the festival grounds.

¨ Puppet Farm Art's animal puppets "Maddy the Bear" and "Laddy the Wolf"

¨ Ongoing boat cruises of the Apostle Islands.

¨ Musical entertainment at Isle Vista Casino

Bayfield is located on the shores of Lake Superior surrounded by orchards and fruit farms is "Wisconsin's Berry Capital" and "the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore". The town has earned a reputation as a colorful, charming and friendly community. Artists, sailors, fishing enthusiasts, kayakers, musicians and outdoor lovers have made this their home.
