Grand Opening Ceremony and Ribbon Cutting Planned for June 8, Special Introductory Packages Announced

(VICTORIA, BRITISH COLUMBIA) June 5, 2006 – Bear Mountain Resort, the premier destination and first and only master planned resort community on Vancouver Island, will celebrate a significant milestone next week with the official opening of its Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa on June 8, 2006. As the first Westin-branded hotel on Vancouver Island, The Westin Bear Mountain is built around the Clubhouse and features 156 guest rooms and suites, the 12,000 square foot Santé Spa, private lounges for men and women, state-of-the-art meeting facilities, access to the Jack and Steve Nicklaus-designed Mountain Course and three restaurants—The Copper Rock Grill, Master’s Lounge and Panache.

The grand opening event for the Westin Bear Mountain will begin with a ribbon cutting ceremony and press conference onsite at 9:45am. Attending dignitaries will include the Honourable Olga Ilich, B.C.’s Minister of Tourism, Sport and the Arts and the Honourable Ida Chong, B.C.’s Minister of Community Services as well as Mark Cardinal, Mayor of the Highlands; Jody Twa, Mayor of Colwood; and Stew Young, Mayor of Langford.

The evening’s events will include a reception for more than 1,600 invitees including members of the business and tourism community as well as real estate representatives, buyers, investors, friends and family. The event will kick off with a champagne reception at 5:00pm on the main floor of the West Coast-style Clubhouse where guests will be awed by the towering timber-beamed lobby embellished with massive stone fireplaces and a two-story waterfall. Following speeches and dedications in the Bear Mountain Ballroom, visitors will enjoy an on-going reception until notable Canadian band 54-40 begins playing at 10:00pm.

Cuisine from each of Bear Mountain’s three, new restaurants will be served throughout the evening and tours will be conducted of the entire Clubhouse. Guests will be encouraged to explore the facility on their own where they will be greeted by first-class entertainment in each venue, including a jazz quartet in the main lobby lounge, a harpist in the hotel’s penthouse, a jazz trio in the men’s lounge, cellists in the ladies lounge and a guitarist in the Mountainside Athletic Club. In addition, each guest will be issued a “passport” that depicts each featured room of the building (lounge, pro shop, penthouse, etc.) and stamps issued from each area will enter them to win a variety of prizes including a romantic penthouse package for two at the Westin Bear Mountain, a special dinner for eight at Panache, one year family membership to the Mountainside Athletic Club or the grand prize of $10,000 “Bear Bucks” good towards the purchase of real estate, accommodations, golfing privileges or food and beverage at Bear Mountain Resort and The Westin Bear Mountain Victoria Golf Resort & Spa.
