B&B Bargain for Horse & Rider- Hay Included

Brecon Beacons, WALES, April 5, 2007 – Legendary Welsh hospitality is expanding with a new program that not only caters to riders, but to their horses too. The Brecon Beacons National Park has introduced the first-ever horse-friendly B&B network beginning with 18 B&B’s offering a warm welcome and great value for horse and rider.

Characteristic of the horse-friendly B&B’s is the Wern, which created a three-day circuit for riders who start at its farm and stay a night at two other farms on the way. Breakfast for its two-legged guests includes locally cured bacon, eggs from the farmyard and home-made jam and lemon curd; its four-legged guests dine on locally-grown grass. For dinner, riders are treated to local lamb or beef and the horse is treated to locally produced haylage and windfall apples in the autumn with “room service” delivering fodder and hard food upon request.

Accommodation for riders is in a double or twin room with natural-fiber bedclothes, and the horses spend the night in the comfort of specialist aubiose (hemp) bedding. The Wern B&B charges £25 for riders and £15 for horses plus an additional £5 for unlimited grazing, similar rates apply to the other B&B’s in the network.

In related news, the Brecon Beacons has joined with the British Horse Society to create a new publication which promotes five new circular routes which travel through some of the park’s most outstanding beauty spots. The pamphlet includes a detailed map and essential riding information.

Regarded as one of the most important geological landscapes in Europe, the Brecon Beacons was the first national park in Britain to be awarded membership in the highly prestigious European Geopark Network. The park, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, rewards riders (and non-riders too) with contrasting landscapes, ranging from windswept uplands and reservoirs to ancient woodlands and waterfalls.
