Ben Franklin Goes to New Heights to Show Philly’s Got Benergy!(TM)

Two Philadelphia Squares Illuminated With 1.6 Million Watts of Light
to Celebrate the Holidays and Ben’s 300th Birthday

WHAT: Benjamin Franklin, the master of electricity, will simultaneously light Rittenhouse Square and Franklin Square with 8,000 colored globes to celebrate the holiday season and his upcoming 300th birthday. The illumination will take place as Ben is hoisted 50 feet into the air while the Polish American String Band and the Classic Carolers serenade him.

Rush-hour strollers through Rittenhouse Square will be treated to a special “B. Franklin Holiday Hot Chocolate.” Both squares will remain illuminated through January 31, 2006, to coincide with Franklin’s 300th birthday on January 17.
