PHILADELPHIA, April 29 /PRNewswire/ — There’s a rock band on Broad Street. Music, laughter and the sounds of sneakers slapping the pavement fill the morning air as more than 11,000 runners sprint for the finish line in one the fastest 10-mile courses in the country. It’s the 26th Annual Blue Cross Broad Street Run, and on Sunday May 1, there’s fun for race enthusiasts and couch potatoes alike.

“The Blue Cross Broad Street Run is a very special event. It’s a Philadelphia tradition that has grown during its 26 years into one of our area’s premier events. It brings people from throughout our region and the world to Philadelphia for good fun, good health and great competition,” said Joseph A. Frick, President & CEO at Independence Blue Cross. “IBC is proud to sponsor the Blue Cross Broad Street Run. It’s a wonderful way to promote health and fitness for our entire community.”

“Independence Blue Cross’s involvement has truly helped this race grow,” notes Jim Marino, Race Director, Philadelphia Recreation Department, who conducts the event. “IBC’s commitment has helped to make this the second largest 10-miler in the country. It’s truly remarkable to see how we’ve grown and how we continue to grow.”

From its humble start in 1980, the Blue Cross Broad Street Run has grown into a premier 10-miler that attracts more than 12,000 runners to Philadelphia to compete for a share of more than $10,000 in prizes.
