Microtel Inns & Suites Named Top Budget Hotel Brand By Business Travel News

ATLANTA, March 16 /PRNewswire/ — Microtel Inns & Suites, the chain of all newly-constructed, interior corridor hotels, has been ranked the top brand in the budget hotel segment by Business Travel News in its 2006 “Top U.S. Hotel Chain Survey,” conducted annually among corporate travel buyers.

According to the publication, Microtel swept every category in the budget portion of the survey and scored extremely high in both the physical appearance of its properties and price-value relationship. Travel buyers also singled out Microtel as having the best commission payment system in its sector.

“We are proud to receive this recognition and that Microtel is the leader in its segment,” said Mike Leven, President and CEO of US Franchise Systems, Inc., (USFS), parent company of the franchisor of the Microtel brand. “Not only have we greatly expanded the innovations that Microtel provides, we have raised the bar on the types of amenities that travelers can expect in their hotel rooms.”

Microtel Inns & Suites is the first economy/budget hotel chain to provide guests with free local and long distance phone calls within the continental U.S., plus free wireless high speed Internet access in all its guestrooms nationwide. The brand won the 2005 “Extra Mile Award” from Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel Magazine for offering the free telecommunications amenities, and for the fourth consecutive year, was ranked highest in guest satisfaction among economy/budget hotel chains in J.D. Power and Associates’ “North America Hotel Guest Satisfaction Study.” Microtel was also the winner of the Fourth Quarter 2005 “Market Metrix Hospitality Index” with an 86% customer satisfaction score, far surpassing other brands in the economy hotel segment.

In addition, Leven told Business Travel News: “We are keeping the economy product where it is, but improving our amenities like bedding and continental breakfast. Our prices increased in 2005, maybe 6 or 7 percent, but in the budget tier that translates to only two or three dollars.”

There are currently 278 Microtel hotels open or under construction, and an additional 155 executed agreements in the pipeline. In addition to the free telecommunications amenities, all Microtel hotels offer complimentary continental breakfast and members of the MicroPass(TM) frequent guest program earn a free night’s stay after just nine night stays at any location.
