Come and Celebrate the Caribbean Festival at the Detroit Zoo

ROYAL OAK, Mich., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ — Come celebrate the Detroit Zoo’s exciting Caribbean Festival on August 13 and 14, part of the Summer Festivals at the Detroit Zoo … Like Nowhere Else presented by Pizza Hut(R). This cultural event will feature opportunities to learn Caribbean arts and crafts, listen to steel drums being played live by Caribbean artists, and sample authentic Caribbean style foods. At the Caribbean Community Resource area, guests will be able to talk with representatives from local Caribbean organizations about this vibrant culture. Located on the plaza east of the Ford Education Center, the Caribbean Festival takes place 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and is free with the cost of Zoo admission.

The Summer Festivals continue on select days through October 9, 2005, and each one celebrates different ethnic groups on weekends. One ethnic group per month will be featured with a weekend of fun cultural activities. Each weekend will include entertainment, authentic style food, arts and crafts and a cultural community resource area.

Pizza Hut is taking the sponsorship a step further by implementing a Summer promotion, “Do the Zoo Thing.” Until October 9, when consumers dine-in and purchase “The True Zoo Family Deal,” Pizza Hut will donate 20 percent of proceeds to the Detroit Zoo. Pizza Hut has committed to a maximum $10,100 donation, minimum $5,000.

The Detroit Zoological Institute is comprised of the Detroit Zoo and the Belle Isle Nature Zoo. The Institute, founded in 1928, is committed to celebrating and saving wildlife. Situated on 125 acres of naturalistic exhibits, the Detroit Zoo is open year round with several indoor viewing areas. The Detroit Zoo is located at the intersection of Ten Mile Road and Woodward Avenue, just off I-696 in Royal Oak. Admission is $11.00 for adults 13 to 61; $9.00 for senior citizens 62 and older and $7.00 for students ages 2 to 12; and children under 2 are free.
