SANDUSKY, Ohio, Sept. 7 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Cedar Fair, L.P. (NYSE:FUN) , a publicly traded partnership which owns and operates seven amusement parks and five water parks, has announced plans for a new world- class roller coaster at Worlds of Fun, located in Kansas City, Missouri, for the 2006 season.
Dick Kinzel, chairman, president and chief executive officer, reported that capital expenditures at Worlds of Fun will be highlighted by the construction of Patriot, which will be the longest, tallest and fastest full- circuit inverted roller coaster in the region. “At a cost of approximately $14 million, Patriot will be the largest single investment in Worlds of Fun’s history,” said Kinzel. Designed by Bolliger & Mabillard of Switzerland – the same firm that created Dorney Park’s Hydra, The Revenge roller coaster and several other popular Cedar Fair coasters – Patriot will travel a 3,081-foot- long steel track that will feature four inversions, an inclined banked curve, an s-curve and a high-speed spiral. Patriot is the sixth roller coaster at Worlds of Fun and is scheduled to open in April 2006.
“Patriot will continue to build upon the momentum we’ve established at Worlds of Fun through strategic capital spending over the past several years, and it will further increase the park’s level of recognition in its market,” added Kinzel. “Including the $14 million in capital expenditures for 2006, we have invested more than $60 million in Worlds of Fun since we acquired the park in July 1995.”
Kinzel concluded by noting that capital expenditure plans at the Partnership’s other parks for next season are in the process of being finalized and will be announced in the next month or two.
Cedar Fair’s seven amusement parks are Cedar Point, located on Lake Erie between Cleveland and Toledo; Knott’s Berry Farm near Los Angeles in Buena Park, California; Dorney Park & Wildwater Kingdom near Allentown, Pennsylvania; Geauga Lake & Wildwater Kingdom near Cleveland, Ohio; Valleyfair near Minneapolis/St. Paul; Worlds of Fun, located in Kansas City, Missouri; and Michigan’s Adventure near Muskegon, Michigan. The Partnership’s water parks are located near San Diego and in Palm Springs, California, and adjacent to Cedar Point, Knott’s Berry Farm and Worlds of Fun. Cedar Fair also owns and operates the Castaway Bay Indoor Waterpark Resort located in Sandusky, Ohio.
