Celebrity Chef Mark Miller to Host Cinco de Mayo Celebration at the Westin La Cantera Resort

SAN ANTONIO, May 2 /PRNewswire/ — World-renowned celebrity chef Mark Miller, founder of Coyote Cafe in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and the inspiration for The Westin La Cantera’s, Francesca’s at Sunset, is returning to the resort for an exciting Cinco de Mayo culinary celebration on Friday, May 6th, 2005. The event is open to the public and runs from 5:00 p.m. until sundown. Cost is $30.00 per person, which includes choice of Margarita or Mojito Especial. The Westin La Cantera Resort will be providing $5.00 from each ticket purchased to The Children’s Shelter.

Chef Miller continues his ongoing consultation at the resort with bi- annual visits, which always prove to enhance the contemporary Southwestern culinary flavors of the resort’s fine dining restaurant, Francesca’s at Sunset. For the first time in San Antonio, Chef Miller, Francesca’s Chef de Cuisine, Jesse Perez, and the resort’s Executive Chef, John Northcutt have created a Cinco de Mayo culinary celebration for all to enjoy. Open to the public, the resort will transform its San Saba Courtyard into the perfect setting to stroll through the Fiesta-style celebration, where the chefs will feature a variety of Norteno (country style) cuisine from regions of Mexico. The spectacular and bold menu will feature starters and entrees of ceviches, empanadas, huachinango, tamales, tostadas and authentic desserts.

Today, Miller markets several products including a line of retail foods called Coyote Concina. He continues to focus on education and information through his consulting business and has many different clients, including Francesca’s at Sunset. He gives lectures on food history and teaches cooking around the globe.

Miller grew up in Massachusetts, but made his way out West to attend college at the University of California at Berkeley, where he studied cultural anthropology. He continues to use his knowledge of different cultures to inspire his culinary creations.

Numerous awards have been bestowed upon Miller for his excellence in cooking. He has received the Silver Spoon Award, the James Beard award and the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, just to name a few. In 1989 Life Magazine named Miller one of the “most influential chefs of the decade.” Miller was making an impact then and he continues to leave his mark with his fine culinary art and critically acclaimed restaurants.

Not only is Miller a master chef, he is also an author. He continues to inform and educate people with his cookbooks. Over the past 14 years Miller has written and published 10 cookbooks including his first book, Coyote Cafe, a timeless classic, first published in 1989 and revised and republished in 2001 and again in Dec. 2002. Other publications include: “The Great Chile Book,” “The Great Salsa Book,” “Squash Poster,” “Tamales,” and “Red Sage.”
