Chula Vista Breaks Ground on Major Development in Wisconsin Dells

$200 Million Expansion to Include Condominiums, Indoor Water Park and Meeting Facilities

WISCONSIN DELLS, Wis., June 30 /PRNewswire/ — Chula Vista Resort, a family-owned water park resort on the Upper Dells, officially began construction on a planned $200 million expansion during a groundbreaking ceremony earlier today. The project, which will be developed in several phases over the next four years, is expected to be the single largest in Wisconsin Dells history.

The initial phase of the expansion, scheduled for completion in early summer 2006, will include 166 condominiums, an 80,000 square-foot indoor water park and a new restaurant. More than 30,000 square-feet of meeting space will also be added to the resort’s existing convention facilities.

“This is an exciting day for Chula Vista and Wisconsin Dells,” said Mike Kaminski, president of Chula Vista Resort. “For years, the Dells has been the Midwest’s leader in creating hospitality experiences. Our project is just another example of the area’s ongoing commitment to offering its guests first- class accommodations and entertainment at a tremendous value.”

When the Chula Vista expansion is complete in 2009, it is expected to add more than 1,000 rental units, including condominiums, efficiency studios and hotel rooms. A water park encompassing more than 100,000 square feet as well as a 200,000 square-foot convention and banquet center containing a multi- purpose sports complex will also be built. In addition, the resort will be making major improvements to the nearby Cold Water Canyon Golf Course and constructing new fairway villas situated near some of the most scenic holes on the 18-hole course.

Details about the condominiums to be constructed in phase one were initially announced in May 2004. The new units will be nestled among a forest of 100-foot Norway and White Pines overlooking the Wisconsin River. Two different condominium designs, spaced over six floors will be built. The luxury condominiums will offer two or three bedrooms and select units will include penthouse levels.

The restaurant included in the development’s initial phase will offer steak, seafood and other traditional cuisine in a white-table-linen, ala carte environment. Each table in the new restaurant, which is scheduled to open in summer 2006, will feature a view of the Wisconsin River. Chula Vista will also be adding new freestanding, independently operated restaurants on the resort grounds to offer guests expanded dining options.

“Travelers today are seeking a variety of leisure opportunities in one convenient location,” Kaminski said. “With our expansion, we’ll be able to wrap the Chula Vista experience around an abundance of exciting activities. Our guests will be able to enjoy a one-of-a-kind water park, golf a challenging course, choose between several great restaurants and relax in a spa without leaving the property. Plus, we overlook the Upper Dells, so water recreation, hiking, biking and other outdoor activities are just a stone’s throw away.”

In a related development, the city of Wisconsin Dells announced it is considering extending its Dells RiverWalk to the new Chula Vista expansion. The RiverWalk is a 1,100-foot fully paved walkway adjacent to the Wisconsin River, which opened to the public in August 2003. The scenic walkway offers a bicycle route, benches, picnic tables and special game tables for the enjoyment of its users.

In keeping with Chula Vista’s longstanding dedication to offering its guests a natural experience, great care will be taken to blend the new development with its surroundings. The planned expansion will be specially designed to have minimal impact, while still offering beautiful views of the Upper Dells.
