Columbus, OH (PRWEB) August 18, 2006 — The world’s most authentic, museum-quality representation of Christopher Columbus’ flagship, the Santa Maria, celebrates its 15th Anniversary as it continues to draw crowds of all ages to the City of Columbus, Ohio waterfront.

After more than 500 years later, the ship, built from historically accurate plans based upon ancient archives, presents an authentic portrayal of the voyage, its crew, and the far-reaching impact of the encounter of two worlds which existed in 1492.

Onboard tours dramatize the daring and determination of those explorers who set out on their mission. Visitors gain first-hand knowledge of life as a 15th Century seafarer through informed costumed ‘interpreters’ who intrigue and educate.

A spectacular series of yearly events and celebrations augment the regularly scheduled onboard tours. As the later summer months evolve into Autumn, a variety of events are scheduled to fascinate, educate and entertain.

Upcoming seasonal events such as the popular Navigation Sunday Renaissance Festival and the Eppe Fencing Tournament in late August, as well as the Haunted Ship in October, will thrill and enchant visitors.

Additionally, corporate and group meetings, outings, functions, ship rentals and overnight stays, make the ship an ideal and memorable destination. Onboard kick-off events, cocktail parties and promotions round out its distinctive offerings.

Weddings often take place on the ship, providing an unusally romantic venue. Group and school tours are also a popular offering, with the opportunity to host overnight youth programs which will combine maritime lore, hard work, discipline and fun into a memorable experience.

“We strive to merge living history with experiential education,” states Linda Ketchum, Director of Columbus Santa Maria Inc., the 501 (3) non-profit organization which operates the ship.

°The Ship is literally a floating museum which naturally appeals to both young and and old,° adds spokesperson Michael A Massa.

The vessel, moored on the Scioto River on the City of Columbus waterfront, has a main deck which is handicapped accessible.

Regularly scheduled tours are available 10:00 to 3:00 EST daily, and Noon to 5:00 PM Saturday and Sundays. The Ship’s hours of operation are April through October.
