Continental Airlines Sponsors Amigos de las Americas Community Service Projects in Mexico This Summer

Voting Now Open for Continental/Amigos Latin American Photo Contest

HOUSTON, July 1 /PRNewswire/ — Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL) is sponsoring three groups of U.S. high school- and college-age student volunteers who are traveling to Mexico this summer for Amigos de las Americas projects in the areas of nutrition, youth leadership and community development.

The 185 volunteers, who come from 25 states, will spend up to eight weeks this summer working with Mexican governmental agencies, nonprofit organizations and students in Guanajuato, Michoacan and Oaxaca.

Founded in 1965, Amigos de las Americas is a Houston-based non-profit organization that provides leadership training and volunteer service opportunities in the United States and Latin America. Since its inception, more than 20,000 AMIGOS volunteers have lived and worked in 15 Latin American and Caribbean countries, delivering more than 12 million health services. Continental is the group’s official airline.

“Continental is very pleased to support AMIGOS and the valuable work they accomplish working together with Latin American organizations and local citizens,” said Pete Garcia, Continental’s Staff Vice President, Latin America, and member of the AMIGOS Board of Directors. “Latin America forms a major part of our operations and we are happy to continue our support of a group that, like Continental, understands the importance of cultural connections.”

During May and June, AMIGOS solicited photographs taken in Latin American countries where AMIGOS and Continental operate. AMIGOS staff will select the top 20 photographs to be displayed on the AMIGOS website, www.amigoslink.org , for public voting from July 1 to Aug. 1. The photo contest winner will receive two roundtrip Continental Airlines tickets to Latin America.

To volunteer for a Latin American community service project, AMIGOS participants must be at least 16 years old by the project departure date, and must have completed the sophomore year of high school and at least two years of high school Spanish or the equivalent. Before departure, the volunteers must complete a training program that includes Spanish-language instruction; Latin American history and cultural awareness; health and safety; first aid, public health and community development; human relations, leadership, management and presentation skills; and community service.

Continental offers a number of Spanish-language services, including bilingual flight attendants on many flights to Latin America; and bilingual airport personnel, reservations agents and signage. Passengers may make reservations in Spanish at 1-800-537-9222. Continental Airlines has been named for eight consecutive years to Hispanic Magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies for Hispanics” (1998-2005).

Continental Airlines is the world’s sixth-largest airline. Continental, together with Continental Express and Continental Connection, has more than 3,000 daily departures throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia, serving 150 domestic and 130 international destinations, more than any other carrier in the world. Nearly 400 additional points are served via SkyTeam alliance airlines, which include Aeromexico, Air France/KLM, Alitalia, CSA Czech Airlines, Delta Air Lines, Korean Air and Northwest Airlines. With 41,000 employees, Continental has hubs serving New York, Houston, Cleveland and Guam, and together with Continental Express, carries approximately 56 million passengers per year. Continental consistently earns awards and critical acclaim for both its operation and its corporate culture.

For the second consecutive year, FORTUNE magazine named Continental the No. 1 Most Admired Global Airline on its 2005 list of Most Admired Global Companies. Continental was also included in the publication’s annual “Top 50″ list, which ranks all companies, across a wide variety of industries, that appear in the Global Most Admired Companies issue.
