Continental Airlines Inaugurates Daily Nonstop Service From Bangor to New York

Continental Launches Service in Time for Summer Travel Season

BANGOR, Maine, June 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — Continental Airlines (NYSE:CAL) today inaugurated daily, nonstop service between Bangor, Maine (BGR) and its New York-area hub at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). This new service complements existing daily nonstop service between Newark Liberty International Airport and Portland, Maine.

Bangor Mayor Frank Farrington, along with city and county leaders, were on hand for the festivities at today’s inaugural ceremony. Representatives from U.S. Senator Susan Collins and U.S. Senator Olympia Snowe, Congressman Michael Michaud and Maine Governor John Baldacci were also in attendance to offer congratulations to city leaders for bringing in the new service.

The roundtrip connecting Bangor and New York will be operated with the smooth, quiet Embraer ERJ-145. This 50-seat aircraft offers full service including drinks, snacks, blankets and pillows. Travelers can take advantage of advanced seat assignments and OnePass frequent flyer miles can be redeemed on Continental and partner airlines.

Bangor travelers arriving at Newark Liberty International Airport will have the opportunity to take connecting flights to dozens of other destinations. Approximately 420 flights a day travel out of Newark Liberty International Airport to more than 180 destinations worldwide. Several international routes are being added out of Newark this year. Nonstop service from Newark to Bristol began on May 19. Other international destinations that are already offering nonstop service include Belfast which started on May 26; Stockholm on June 2; Hamburg which starts today; Beijing on June 15; Berlin on June 30 and Delhi on November 1.

For travelers who want to visit the New York area Newark Liberty International Airport is located about 15 miles from downtown Manhattan. Newark Liberty International Airport offers the fastest travel times to many parts of the city, including the Air Train service to New York Penn Station in midtown Manhattan. One-way fares between Liberty International and New York Penn Station are $11.55 on New Jersey Transit and $23 on Amtrak. Travel time is less than 30 minutes.
