Continental Airlines Continues to Support Katrina Relief Effort

HOUSTON, Sept. 3 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Continental Airlines' Houston hub is the airline hub nearest to the Katrina disaster, and the carrier is vigorously participating in relief efforts.

Today Continental (NYSE:CAL) has operated two evacuation flights from New Orleans International Airport, carrying 153 passengers to Kelly Air Force Base (San Antonio) and 150 passengers to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. Two additional flights are pending dispatch from Houston to carry more evacuees from New Orleans.

These flights are in addition to the evacuation flight operated on Wednesday.

Hundreds of Continental personnel have volunteered their time to operate the evacuation flights. In addition, hundreds of Continental staff are on duty as volunteers at Houston shelters including the Astrodome and the George R. Brown Convention Center. Continental is providing regular updates to employees on volunteer opportunities and donation needs via its intranet.
