New Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott Hotels Officially Top-Off in Downtown Austin

Ceremonial construction beam signed and hoisted to top floor marks final phase of project scheduled for August 2006 opening

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 9 /PRNewswire/ — Downtown Austin’s newest hotels, the combined Courtyard and Residence Inn by Marriott, marked their pre-opening progress with a topping-off ceremony and ceremonial beam signing. On Tuesday, February 7th, the last beam was signed by Mayor Will Wynn, City dignitaries, hotel owners and ceremony attendees, then hoisted to the top of the building, officially recognizing the final phase of construction. Scheduled to open in late summer 2006, the uniquely designed hotel facility will combine the distinctive comforts of two Marriott brand hotels presenting a total of 449 guest rooms and suites with shared professional meeting and recreation facilities, plus onsite Champions Restaurant & Sports Bar. The hotels will be owned and operated by White Lodging Services of Merrillville, Ind.

“We thank White Lodging for their commitment to Austin and the confidence they’ve shown in downtown by adding two more properties to their growing inventory of Austin hotels. When the City of Austin invested more than $1.5 billion in infrastructure to seed Austin’s tourism industry, we then depended on the private sector to take the torch and run with it from that point. That’s exactly what White Lodging has done with its 15 local hotels. We are excited to have another 449 rooms opening this summer to accommodate the growing demand from our visitors,” said Austin Mayor Will Wynn.

The hotels will be located at 300 E. 4th Street at Trinity Street, in the heart of downtown Austin, walking distance to most of the city’s famed attractions including the Austin Convention Center, 6th Street entertainment district including over 100 restaurants and lounges, Austin Museum of Art, State Capitol and the Governor’s Mansion. Both hotels will be connected through 6,600 square feet of contemporary meeting space that encompasses seven meeting rooms and a boardroom. The meeting facility can accommodate meetings and groups up to 275 people with on-site catering for special events. Both hotels will also share access to a heated indoor pool, whirlpool, large fitness center, and 241-space underground parking facility.

“As we continue to book more national conventions and attract more national media attention, travel to Austin continues to increase. People want to come here. Attendance at several recent conventions have surpassed the meeting planners’ expectations,” says Bob Lander, president and CEO of the Austin Convention & Visitors Bureau. “Austin offers a great mix of hotel properties in the downtown area, and, now, that choice is expanding even more. We welcome the addition of this unique concept from White Lodging, which brings two Marriott brands together, side by side, and next door to the Convention Center.”

Dining options for the hotels include Champions Restaurants & Sports Bar, which will serve American fare for breakfast, lunch and dinner, a street level Starbucks Coffee Shop to enjoy freshly prepared espresso drinks, delicious pastries and fine coffee, plus a 24-hour pantry available which will serve sandwiches and beverages. “It will be my special pleasure to install memorabilia to salute Austin’s newest National Champions, the Longhorns, as well as other beloved Austin teams into our new Champions Restaurant & Sports Bar,” exclaimed Roger Radtke, General Manager of the hotels.

Both hotels will feature Marriott’s stylish, new design prototypes, with a residential feel, plush bed packages and numerous details to accommodate the changing needs of today’s travelers, including wired and wireless internet technology. The 270-room Courtyard will introduce the brand’s “reinvented” prototype, that features a new, upscale look, feel and functionality. In-room amenities include complimentary high-speed internet access, coffee and tea service, hairdryer, iron/ironing board and two telephones, data ports and voicemail. Travel-friendly design details continue throughout the hotel, including a unique lobby-level business library with free wireless and high- speed internet access. A “walk-around” front desk allows for increased guest interaction and more personalized services.

The 179-room all-suite Residence Inn is ideal for travelers who are away from home for more than a night or two. The studio, 1- and 2-bedroom suites are designed with separate areas for living, working, eating and sleeping. Each suite features Marriott’s stylish, sophisticated new bedding package and room design with a fully-equipped, full sized kitchen, complimentary high- speed internet access, large work desk with ergonomic chair, hairdryer, coffee and tea service and iron/ironing board. Additional Residence Inn amenities include complimentary hot breakfast buffet every morning and a complimentary Manager’s Reception (Mon – Thur).
