Dallas-Area Locations Accepting Non-Monetary Donations for Affected Children, Families
DALLAS, Sept. 6 /PRNewswire/ — In light of the tragedy following Hurricane Katrina, Dallas based Long Range Systems (LRS), a leading innovator of on-premise wireless communications for the hospitality industry, has organized a toy and school supply drive for Katrina’s youngest victims with Dallas-area Cub Scout Troop 52. As Gulf Coast residents arrive in Texas seeking refuge, LRS and Cub Scout Troop 52 are establishing drop points at Dallas-area schools, churches, office buildings, and retail centers, and asking the Dallas community for their assistance in providing aid to the families affected by Hurricane Katrina.
Because of the devastation wrought in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, many children from Gulf Coast communities will be attending school in Texas- area institutions in the upcoming months. LRS and Troop 52 plan to provide a number of children with school supplies and toys as part of the community’s hurricane relief efforts. LRS and Troop 52 are asking the community for non- monetary donations such as new pens, pencils, paper, backpacks, notebooks, stuffed animals, and other new non-electronic toys, to help hurricane victims begin to rebuild their lives.
“America pulls together in times of crisis, and it is our responsibility as Americans to help our fellow citizens rebound from the effects of Hurricane Katrina,” said Ken Lovegreen, CEO of LRS. “Katrina struck at the beginning of the school year, and has thus affected the education of hundreds of thousands of children from Gulf Coast communities. LRS and Troop 52 are asking the community for its help in providing new school supplies to the children from the affected areas so that they can enter our local schools and continue with their education. In addition, we ask that the community donate unused non- electronic toy items in order to offer some level of comfort to refugee children.”
LRS and Cub Scout Troop 52 have organized drop points in Dallas area schools, churches, office buildings, and retail centers, and are also accepting donations at LRS headquarters, located at 9855 Chartwell Drive in Dallas, TX, 75243. Due to sanitation issues and the immediacy of the need, drop points will only accept new items. The LRS/Cub Scout hurricane relief drive will begin September 6th and drop points will continue collecting items until September 16th, at which point the items will be distributed to the affected children. Affected families should contact LRS directly to receive donated items.
Community members who are interested in volunteering, or individuals seeking a list of donation drop points, should contact LRS at firstname.lastname@example.org . Charities and schools who are in need of supplies should contact LRS as well. Additionally, LRS asks that individuals who would prefer to make a monetary contribution to relief efforts contact the American Red Cross at 1-800-HELP-NOW.
