DETROIT, April 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Metro Detroit residents will have an opportunity to see and experience the new development in downtown Detroit as the Detroit Metro Convention & Visitors Bureau (DMCVB) launches its new monthly public "D-Tours" starting April 23.

The first half-day D-Tour will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 9 a.m. The bus tour begins at the General Motors Renaissance Center and includes an overview of the new GM Wintergarden at the center as well as the massive riverfront revitalization project underway. The tour explores the new Campus Martius Park, Compuware headquarters and the many other developments along the lower Woodward corridor. Midtown Detroit and its new galleries, restaurants and residential projects are showcased before the tour concludes at noon.

"We are introducing D-Tours as an opportunity for residents to get excited and be part of the change as our region gears up to host the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, Super Bowl XL and a host of other marquee events," said Larry Alexander, president and CEO of the DMCVB. "Those events will put the national spotlight on Detroit and bring hundreds of thousands of visitors into the region. These tours will help to educate residents on the new development and attractions in the region in order to create civic pride and ambassadors in advance of these events."

In addition to April 23, D-Tours will also be held on the following Saturdays: May 21, June 18, July 16, August 20, Sept. 17 and Oct. 15. Cost is $20 per person including parking. Advance registration is required and participants must be registered and paid in full 48 hours before the tours. Registration forms are available online at http://www.theworldiscoming.com/ . To register by telephone or request a D-Tour brochure, call 313-202-1949.

D-Tours were created by the Tourism Economic Development Council (TEDC), a subsidiary of the DMCVB, and will be staffed in part by volunteers from Detroit Synergy, an organization of Detroit and metro-area residents who plan, program and promote initiatives that highlight Detroit as a great place to live, work, and play.
