Discovery’s Military Promotion Has Record Response

More Than 14,437 Families Request Holiday Cards for Free Cruises

MIAMI, Jan. 30 /PRNewswire/ — For the past three years, Discovery Cruise Line has offered free cruises to Florida military personnel who served in Iraq or Afghanistan during the preceding year. The offer is for a free roundtrip cruise to Grand Bahama Island, including the cost of all meals on board, all service charges, taxes and Bahamian departure fees. There are no additional costs involved for the military personnel.

In 2005, the offer was expanded to apply to all military personnel, wherever they live, and not just to Florida residents. According to Hanns J. Hahn, General Manager of Discovery, “As a result of the expanded offer, 2005 was a record year. Over 14,437 families asked Discovery to send Holiday cards to their relatives serving in Iraq or Afghanistan advising them that they are entitled to a free cruise on Discovery Cruise Line any time before the end of 2006. We are delighted with the response and look forward to having our military on board to enjoy the cruise experience on Discovery as well as Grand Bahama Island.”

Discovery sails daily from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale to Grand Bahama Island, departing at 7:45 am and returning at 10 pm. Discovery offers same day roundtrip cruises as well as cruise and stay vacation packages at most of the island’s hotels. Every year Discovery carries over 200,000 passengers between the two destinations.
