Join a Late Summer Adventure in Service

It’s never too late to make a difference in someone’s life. As you’re spreading on that summer sunblock, why not spread a little light and hope into the world? Global Volunteers, the nation’s premier provider of short-term service programs, still has openings on the following late-summer and early fall teams:

Europe

Ireland, Aug. 5-19: Lend a helping hand on labor and maintenance projects at Glencree Centre for Reconciliation, an innovative conflict-resolution facility located in the Wicklow Mountains 20 minutes outside of Dublin. This is an opportunity to actively work for peace. Tax-deductible service program fee: $2,455 for two weeks, $2,255 for one week. This covers all meals, lodging, ground transportation and project expenses. Airfare extra. Volunteers also may participate in an optional escorted tour of Belfast.

Poland, Sept. 9-23: Share your friendship and English skills with Poles young and old in and around the eastern city of Siedlce. Volunteers stay at Reymontowka, a renovated country manor house that doubles as an arts center. Tax-deductible service program fee: $2,495 three weeks, $2,295 two weeks.

Italy, Sept. 16-30: Volunteers are needed to teach conversational English to young Italians in the Puglia region, considered by many as “the next Tuscany.” No teaching experience required – only a curiosity about other cultures and a willingness to service. Tax-deductible service program fee: $2,495 for two weeks; $2,095 for one week.

Romania, July 29-Aug. 19 or Aug. 19-Sept. 9: Provide tender loving care to at-risk babies in a “failure to thrive” clinic in eastern Romania, near Barlad. Freetime opportunities include Transylvania, painted monasteries and the scenic Carpathian Mountains. Tax-deductible service program fee: $2,495 for three weeks or $2,295 for two weeks.

Hungary, Sept. 23-Oct. 14, Oct. 28-Nov. 18: Teach conversational English in the quaint and charming city of Hodmezovasarhely on the great southern Hungarian plain. $2,495, three weeks; $2,295 two weeks, $2,195 one week..
Greece, Oct. 14-28: Savor the beauty of Crete in fall’s golden light while teaching conversational English to students in villages near Iraklion. Tax-deductible service program fee: $2,495 two weeks, $2,295 one week..

Latin America

Costa Rica, weekly starts every Saturday in August, September: Volunteer on labor projects and experience the heartbeat of a rural community in the spectacular Monteverde Cloud Forest of north central Costa Rica. Volunteers are lodged in a tourist inn in Santa Elena. $2,095 two weeks, $1,995 one week.

Mexico: Sept. 30-Oct. 14. Share your English conversational skills with eager university students in the colonial city of Queretaro. $1,995 for two weeks, $1,795 for one week.

Ecuador: Sept. 16-30. Care for vulnerable children at a community center in Calderon on the outskirts of Quito or help on ongoing construction projects. $2,250 two weeks, $2,100 one week.

Peru: Sept. 30-Oct. 14. Open your heart to the kids at Lima’s Puericultorio Perez Aranibar, the largest children’s home in South America. $2,250 two weeks, $2,100 one week.

Asia & Pacific

China: Aug. 26-Sept. 16, Sept. 2-23, Oct. 7-28. Share your English skills with eager learners in the ancient cultural city of Xi’an or in the rural village of An Shang. $2,520-$2,220 depending on the site. Extended stays available.
Cook Islands: Aug. 26-Sept. 16, Sept. 16-Oct. 7. Tutor primary students in reading skills on the island of Rarotonga. $2,595 three weeks, $2,395 two weeks.

Sri Lanka: Sept. 16-30. Build new homes and playgrounds in the tsunami-damaged southern Weligama area of Sri Lanka. $2,295.
