CHINA SOUTHERN AIRLINES TO BOOST AUSTRALIAN SERVICES

GUANGZHOU – China Southern Airlines is to increase flights from Australia to Guangzhou, China. From November, the airline will introduce a third weekly flight from Melbourne and a fifth weekly service from Sydney. To meet peak Christmas/New Year demand, the airline is also adding a series of supplementary flights from Sydney, offering daily service in some weeks of December and January.

MALAYSIA AIRLINES ALTERS INDIA, CHINA SCHEDULES

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysian Airlines will be increasing the frequency and capacity of its flights to several selected destinations including New Delhi and Xiamen, China. Flights to New Delhi will be expanded from four times a week to daily flights, bringing the total to 33 flights weekly. Flights to Xiamen will be increased from three to four times a week. The airline said it will be also increasing capacity on its flights to Perth and Auckland.

THAI AIRWAYS TO BOOST FARES FROM NOVEMBER

BANGKOK – Thai Airways International is increasing its fares on all domestic services by between $A10 (US$7.50) and $A15 – and will also raise the cost of travel on its international routes by between 3% and 5%. The new fares take effect next month. A one-way ticket on the Bangkok-Chiang Mai route will rise by about $A10, while fares for Thai flights to Khon Kaen, Krabi, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phitsanulok, Surat Thani, Trang, Ubon Ratchathani and Udon Thani are to increase by $A15.

AIR SAHARA, AMERICAN TO LAUNCH INDO-US NON-STOP FLIGHT

NEW DELHI – Air Sahara and American Airlines signed a codeshare agreement to launch the first non-stop Delhi-Chicago flight from November 17 with special promotional fares starting at Rs 38,000 (US$849) for a round trip. The special fares would be available till February 28 next year, but not for travel between December 16 and January 15. The fares exclude security surcharge and applicable taxes.

LUFTHANSA TO LAUNCH DAILY SERVICES BETWEEN DELHI, MUNICH

NEW DELHI – German carrier Lufthansa will launch daily services between Delhi and Munich from November 1. Two additional flights will also be introduced on the Bangalore-Frankfurt sector. The German carrier currently operates 32 flights a week from India, which is higher than any European carrier.

PACIFIC BLUE TO LAUNCH TONGA SERVICE FROM SYDNEY FROM OCT 31

SINGAPORE AIRLINES INTRODUCES ADDITION TO BUSINESS CLASS MENU

SINGAPORE – From November 2005 onwards, Singapore Airline’s customers travelling on Raffles (Business) Class will be able to enjoy Hanagoyomi, an exclusively designed Japanese meal. The spread includes cold dishes such as Kuchitori (vegetable appetisers), Aemono (tossed salad) and a variety of dishes such as Yakimono (grilled dish) and Takiawase (simmered dish), complemented with rice, miso soup and cold soba noodles. Flights to Nagpur are to operate 3 times a week, on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, departing Sharjah at 22:30 to arrive in Nagpur at 03:20 the next day. QANTAS BOLSTERS US SERVICES

BRISBANE – Qantas is to add a fifth non-stop service from Brisbane to Los Angeles from 28 January 2006. Further changes to Qantas’ US schedules include moving from eight flights a week on Melbourne-Los Angeles to a double-daily service – seven operating non-stop and seven via Auckland.

JAL TO CODE SHARE IN CHINA

TOKYO – JAL is to launch domestic code-share flights in China with China Eastern Airlines (MU) on three routes, Shanghai-Chengdu, Shanghai-Chongqing, and Shanghai-Shenzhen from October 30. Presently, JAL operates 7 domestic code-share flights a week with Hainan Airlines (HU) between Beijing and Chengdu, but as the result of the new code-share flights with China Eastern, JAL’s code-share domestic flights in China will increase to four routes and 49 flights per week.

KOREAN AIR BEGINS SERVICES TO HUANGSHAN, CHINA

SEOUL – Korean Air has begun operating flights between Seoul, Korean and Huangshan, China. The airline is operating six charter flights in October using a 149 seat capacity B737-700. Flights will depart Incheon International Airport Fridays and Sundays at 3:10 p.m. and arrive at Tunxi Airport at 4:30 p.m. local time. Flights will depart Tunxi Airport at 5:40 p.m. and arrive at Incheon Intl Airport at 8:55 p.m. Flying time is approximately 2 hours 20 minutes.

ACCOR TO RUN TWO HOTELS IN PHUKET, THAILAND

PHUKET – Accor is to manage two new hotels in Phuket, Thailand. The new Mercure Patong and Grand Mercure Karon will join the existing Accor hotels in Phuket, the Novotel Phuket and Novotel Resort Panwa Beach. The low-rise Mercure Patong will be located in the Patong Beach shopping and entertainment strip, with the 245-room hotel featuring pools, restaurants and bars plus a health and fitness centre with spa and extensive meeting and convention facilities. The 300-room Grand Mercure Karon will offer villa-style accommodation with meeting rooms and a business centre. Both hotels are due to open in 2007.
