SINGAPORE AIRLINES TO INCREASE CAPACITY FOR NORTHERN SUMMER SCHEDULE

SINGAPORE – Singapore Airlines will boost capacity on some Asian routes from March 26th, with the Northern Summer schedule. The carrier will operate daily services to the south Australian destination of Adelaide, up from five a week. An extra daily flight will serve the Taiwan capital Taipei, to bring the frequency to three times per day. Three more weekly flights will be offered to the south China destinations of Guangzhou and Hong Kong, while Singapore Airlines will add a flight to the Vietnamese destination of Ho Chi Minh City. Flights to the Malaysian city of Penang will be hiked to three times per day. The airlines will start a three times per week weekly service to the Pakistan destinations of Karachi and Lahore on February 1st.

EMIRATES TO LAUNCH DIRECT DUBAI-CALCUTTA FLIGHT

DUBAI – United Arab Emirates airline Emirates will launch a direct Calcutta-Dubai service on March 26th. The carrier has also recently decided to commence flights from Thiruvananthapuram and to hike its flight frequency to Kochi and Chennai from February 1st. From March 26th, Emirates will offer six non-stop direct flights per week from Calcutta, operating daily except for Saturday.

CHINA AIRLINES TO LAUNCH LUNAR NEW YEAR CROSS-STRAIT CHARTER FLIGHTS

TAIPEI – Taiwan carrier China Airlines (CAL) and its subsidiary Mandarin Airlines will launch Lunar New Year charter flights to mainland China. The inaugural CAL flight will leave Taipei for Shanghai on January 20th. CAL will operate charter services to Shanghai and Beijing, while Mandarin Airlines will operate charter flights to Shanghai, Guangzhou and Xiamen.

SINGAPORE – Budget carrier Jetstar Asia has launched a gift voucher service. The vouchers can be bought online and sent directly to anyone for a flight anywhere on the Jetstar Asia or Valuair network. After purchasing customers have chosen the value of their gift, Jetstar Asia will send a gift voucher via email to the recipient. At present the vouchers are exclusively available to Singapore customers.

OSAKA’S TOYO HOTEL REBRANDED AS RAMADA OSAKA

OSAKA – The Toyo Hotel, Osaka has been rebranded as Ramada Osaka, from January 15th, operating under a franchise agreement with Ramada Worldwide. FOUR SEASONS ANNOUNCES DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS IN ASIA

SHANGHAI – Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has entered into letters of intent for three new development projects in Shanghai, Taipei and Macau. Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai at Pudong will join the present Four Seasons Hotel Shanghai, and will house 190 rooms and suites and 60 residences, along with space for meetings. Four Seasons Hotel Taipei, scheduled to open in 2009, will contain 275 rooms and suites, and 50 serviced apartments for business travellers. Four Seasons Hotel Macau will offer 400 hotel rooms and up to 600 serviced vacation suites.

CARLSON HOTELS ANNOUNCES RADISSON PLAZA HOTEL TIANJIN IN CHINA

FURAMA RESORT DANANG ANNOUNCES EXPANSION PLANS

DANANG – The Bac My An Tourism Joint Venture Company will invest US$10 million to expand the five-star Furama Resort Danang Resort, with 100 more hotel rooms to be built by early 2008 to increase the number of rooms to 300. The resort will also construct an International Conference Centre with one grand-ballroom and four other conference rooms, which will be able to house 800 people and 200 people respectively, bringing its number of conference rooms to 2 grand-ballrooms and 10-group-conference rooms.

STARWOOD TO MANAGE SHERATON DAMEISHA RESORT, SHENZHEN

SHENZHEN – Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide will manage the Sheraton Dameisha Resort in the Chinese city of Shenzhen. Slated to open in early 2008, the Sheraton Dameisha Resort will contain 402 rooms and more than 16,000 square feet of meeting space. The resort will be located at eastern Shenzhen’s Dameisha Beach, some 24 kilometres from downtown Shenzhen.
