DULLES, Va., May 10 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Low-fare airline Independence Air (NASDAQ:FLYI) is proud to announce that the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has again honored the company's maintenance team with the Diamond Award, the highest award in the FAA's Aviation Technician Training Program. The presentation was made during a ceremony at Independence Air headquarters near Washington Dulles International Airport. Independence Air and its parent company have received the Diamond Award every year since 1997.

The award was given to Independence Air based on a detailed evaluation of its maintenance and training programs -- which measured the extent of its initial and recurrent maintenance and airworthiness training as well as the company's regular participation in FAA-sponsored policy and regulation seminars. The presentation was made by Nick Scarpinato, Manager of the FAA's Washington, DC Flight Standards District Office. Also on hand for the FAA were Assistant Manager Ron Curtis, Supervisor Bill Voss, Principal Maintenance Inspector Barry Barbini, Principal Avionics Inspector Norm Schwanke, and Aviation Safety Inspector Rolandos Lazaris.

Independence Air President Tom Moore said, "We could not be more proud of our maintenance team and the outstanding work they do every day. We thank the FAA for once again recognizing their professionalism." He added, "Independence Air's reputation for excellence in operational performance -- as measured by the extremely high number of positive comments we get from our customers -- is due in large part to the efforts of our mechanics and our entire maintenance team."
