Fall Into Fun in 'Green Lake Country'
GREEN LAKE COUNTY, Wis., Aug. 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Autumn is a special time of year for Wisconsin visitors. Green Lake Country Visitors Bureau in central Wisconsin marks the start of autumn with two September festivals, "Pumpkin Fest," and "Golden Days Harvest Festival."
"Thoughts turn to harvesting crops, frost on the pumpkins and good old fashioned family activities," explained Sue McConnell of Green Lake Country Visitors Bureau. "Both of these family-friendly events celebrate the new season."
Ripon is the host to "Pumpkin Fest" (September 17, 2005). Signature events include a scarecrow making contest, pumpkin seed spitting and remote control car race. Other activities include a car show, farmers market, craft fair, silent auction and children's activities. Live musical entertainment by Randy Peterson, Yellow Rock Cloggers, Well Strung and Matt Wahl will keep you dancing.
A 2-mile Dog Walk through Ripon's downtown and along the Northwestern Trail will begin at 9:15 a.m. This walk raises money to maintain Ripon's Dog Park. It's quite a sight, seeing the animals and their owners in costume.
After the walk, visitors are invited to The Village Green for food, refreshments and voting for Dog Walk special prizes. Don't forget to peruse through Ripon's unique stores while you're there.
"Golden Days Harvest Festival," in Green Lake (September 24-25, 2005) celebrates the season with a wealth of food, activities, and a glimpse of autumn color. Throughout the weekend, enjoy the farmer's market and a craft fair. Food and refreshments will be available.
Signature events on Saturday include a pumpkin carving contest, pie baking contest and best-dressed scarecrow contest. In the afternoon, pull up a chair and enjoy the parade.
On Sunday, the streets will be bustling with people taste testing the local restaurants' favorite recipes during the food faire. In the afternoon, cheer on your favorite restaurant team in the annual waiter's race, or stroll through the antique car and motorcycle show.
Add live music, dancing, the beautiful scenery of Green Lake Country, a hint of coolness in the air and it's the perfect recipe for a memorable weekend.
