FAO Schwarz Returns to Chicago
World's Most Famous Toy Store To Open Boutique At Macy's State Street Store
NEW YORK, Oct. 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Children of all ages will have a reason to smile later this month when FAO Schwarz returns to Chicago.
In a unique partnership between two retail legends, FAO Schwarz will open its first "store within a store" at Macy's on November 1. The 5,200-square-foot shop at Macy's on State Street will be filled with the specialty toys, stuffed animals and other high-quality products that have made FAO Schwarz a source of wonder and delight for generations of children.
The new shop marks FAO Schwarz's return to Chicago after five years, and the launch of a new strategic expansion.
"We're bringing the joys of toys back to Chicago," said Ed Schmults, CEO for FAO Schwarz. "Chicago is the perfect city for this expansion, and we're proud to be teamed up with Macy's. We intend to create a corner of enchantment on State Street. With the solid overlap between our customers, we think our presence in Macy's benefits us both."
FAO Schwarz, located in the Kid's Department on Macy's 5th floor, will capture the same wondrous atmosphere that has enthralled generations of children and their parents.
"FAO Schwarz is a world renowned leader in specialty toys and we're thrilled to welcome them to Macy's on State Street," said Frank Guzzetta, Chairman and CEO of Macy's North. "This new store within a store will enhance our customers' shopping experience and the excitement and magic at Macy's on State Street for all ages just in time for the holiday season."
Customers are invited to a ribbon-cutting ceremony featuring the world-famous FAO Schwarz Toy Soldier on November 2 at 10:45 a.m.
About FAO Schwarz
Turning 145 years old this year, FAO Schwarz has evolved into a multi-channel retailer while remaining true to the vision of founder Frederick August Otto Schwarz. Under the direction of CEO Ed Schmults, the company has launched a number of new initiatives, which will make FAO Schwarz's future as vital as its storied past.
FAO Schwarz and Chicago share a history that dates back over more than a century. The first FAO Schwarz store opened in Chicago in 1870, but was destroyed a year later by the great fire of 1871. FAO Schwarz opened another store in 1992 on Michigan Avenue, which closed in early 2002.
