Frontier Continues March Through Mexico With Launch of Acapulco and Cozumel Service

Post-Hurricane Wilma, Cozumel is ‘Open for Business’; Frontier is First and Only Airline to Offer Non-Stop Service From Denver

DENVER, Dec. 19 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — The past weekend was busy for Denver-based Frontier Airlines (NASDAQ:FRNT) as the airline launched its latest two Mexican resort destinations — Cozumel and Acapulco on Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 respectively. The two cities are Frontier’s sixth and seventh destinations in Mexico, complementing its existing non-stop Denver service to Cancun, Mazatlan, Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta and Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo. Both Cozumel and Acapulco will utilize Frontier’s new 132 seat Airbus A319 aircraft, with 33 inches of legroom, 24 channels of LiveTV and pay-per-view movies.

With convenient mid-morning departures from Denver each Saturday, Frontier is the first airline to serve Cozumel non-stop from Denver. In addition, Frontier is one of the first airlines to offer air service since Hurricane Wilma struck the island in November, 2005.

According to the Cozumel Hotel Association, Mexico’s largest island is not only open and ready for business, but, as their tagline says, it is “returning, better than ever.” Raul Marrufo, director of the Cozumel Tourism Promotion Board, was in Denver with Frontier President and CEO, Jeff Potter, to help launch the new service and to highlight one of Cozumel’s greatest attractions — world-class scuba diving (photo attached).

Frontier will offer convenient morning departures from Denver to Acapulco twice a week on Thursday and Sunday. With a population of more than 1.8 million residents, Acapulco represents Frontier’s first foray into a large international city, allowing Frontier to cater to Mexican tourists wishing to visit the U.S. through Frontier’s Denver hub.

Acapulco is known for its nightlife and the pristine beaches of Acapulco Bay, but it also boasts some of Mexico’s top resorts and restaurants. In addition, Acapulco offers world-class game fishing and snorkeling, as well as a rich history, having served as the Spanish base for exploration of the Pacific many centuries ago.

“As we continue to grow our international operations, we couldn’t have asked for two more diverse and compelling destinations than Cozumel and Acapulco,” said John Happ, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Planning. “We are thrilled to be able to support the Cozumel community with new service as it proudly brings its pristine beaches and world-class resorts back to life in the face of one of the greatest natural disasters in its history. Acapulco, in addition to its beautiful beaches and world-renowned cliff divers, is the largest community we serve in Mexico with a population nearing two million, which provides a great opportunity for us to generate significant traffic from Acapulco to the U.S. These are two exciting new destinations that we are confident will be top choices for our customers as we continue to build our international footprint.”
