Full Moon Fever in the Florida Keys

ISLAMORADA, FL – (August 9, 2006) – Every month, a crowd assembles on a beachfront location in the Florida Keys to rejoice and celebrate the full moon. Co-hosted by the elegant Pierre’s Restaurant and its sister property, the casual Morada Bay Beach Café, the Full Moon Party takes place on their shared private beach, providing the setting for a memorable island experience. What began a few years ago as a casual monthly get-together started by owner Hubert Baudoin now includes fireworks, bonfires, flame-throwers, live music and star-gazing, both up above and down below (the party is known to attract a VIP crowd).

A complete full moon experience might begin with a sunset cocktail at Pierre’s handcrafted mahogany bar in the restaurant’s downstairs Green Flash Lounge, surrounded by candlelight and black and white photographs of faraway places. Pierre’s, with its British Colonial décor, carved monastery doors from India, African artifacts, teak tables and kilim rugs, could just as easily be halfway around the world instead of 90 minutes from Miami. For a more “Keys casual” vibe, patrons can kick off their shoes and sit back in one of Morada Bay’s Adirondack chairs with a fresh margarita or daiquiri.

Dinner, depending on the mood, may be enjoyed in the exquisite upstairs dining room or on the open veranda of Pierre’s two-story mansion, with its superb international cuisine and stellar wine list, or by sampling upscale versions of Keys favorites with the tropical bistro-style menu and open-air scene at Morada Bay.

Forever linked to mischievous, mad behavior, the moon that hangs over this festivity certainly follows suit. As it rises, it illuminates the bay and casts a glow on the ever-expanding crowd. The celebration consists of many smaller gatherings in one as guests move freely between live bands and DJs, impromptu drum circles, capoeira demonstrations, fireworks and flame-throwing performances. Quieter moments may be enjoyed around one of the beach bonfires, which burn all night long. Beachfront cocktail bars and barbeque stands line the water’s edge to fuel the evening’s activities.

For those who want to make a full night out of the festivities, sister property The Moorings Village is located just across the road and offers accommodations in 18 charming cottages and plantation houses nestled under a canopy of 600 coconut palms. In keeping with the theme, a private Full Moon Party may be arranged in advance, with dinner prepared by Pierre’s chef, Ben Loftus, in the guests’ house and enjoyed right on The Moorings’ natural sand beach at a large tree trunk table. Only one private Full Moon Party may take place per full moon.

Upcoming Full Moon Party dates include Thursday, September 7; Friday, October 6; and Sunday, November 5, 2006. Entrance to the Full Moon Party is $10 after 7:30 p.m. unless dining at Pierre’s Restaurant or Morada Bay Beach Café. Pierre’s is by-invitation/reservation-only during the event. To confirm upcoming Full Moon Party dates, please call Morada Bay Beach Café at 305.664.0604.
