Sixth Annual 'Glass Now' Gala Art Auction to Benefit Philadelphia's National Liberty Museum
Work From Hundreds of Glass Artists Will Support Philadelphia Peacemaking Organization
PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Final preparations are underway for the National Liberty Museum's sixth annual "Glass Now" gala auction of glass art, with proceeds benefiting the Museum's work to inspire heroes and defuse violence. The annual fundraiser will take place on Saturday, September 24th, 2005 at Center City's Wyndham Franklin Plaza Hotel starting at 5:00 p.m. Planners expect to include more than 300 works of glass sculpture and fine art jewelry in live and silent auctions. Artists represented at "Glass Now" 2005 range from world-class glass art leaders to up-and-coming young visionaries. The festive evening includes a preview cocktail hour, gourmet dinner and live auction excitement.
The annual "Glass Now" auction started in 2000 to support the crucial work of Philadelphia's National Liberty Museum. The Museum is the only institution worldwide that uses glass art as a symbol for liberty: beautiful and strong, yet fragile. Eight Museum galleries feature more than 125 original works of art, including the 20-foot glass "Flame of Liberty" Dale Chihuly commission. Thousands of children visit the National Liberty Museum each week to learn about America's heritage of freedom, to practice critical violence-prevention skills and to meet 2,000 Heroes of Liberty from across the globe.
"Glass Now" 2005 will honor Pennsylvania artist Christopher Ries as the National Liberty Museum's "Artist as Hero." Ries began his long and respected career in glass art under the tutelage of the legendary Harvey K. Littleton, and today is noted for his cut and polished pure crystal sculptures. Along with Christopher Ries, the auction's catalogue will include work from: Zoltan Bohus, Stanislaw Borowski, Latchezar Boyadjiev, Lucio Bubacco, George Bucquet, Sydney Cash, Jose Chardiet, Keith & Deanna Clayton, Colin Heaney, Stephen D. Hodder, Steve Klein, Jon Kuhn, K. William LeQuier, Steve Linn, Maria Lugossy, Robert Mickelsen, William Morris, Mel Munsen, Jay P. Musler, Shelley Muzylowski-Allen, Robert Palusky, Flo Perkins, Janusz Pozniak, Davide Salvadore, Emilio Santini, Therman Statom, Lino Tagliapietra and many more.
In addition to the "Glass Now" gala auction, the Museum plans a full weekend of related events - including tours of galleries and private collections, demonstrations, lectures, dinners and more.
