How to Celebrate the New Year in Good Taste

8 Essential Tips to Ring in 2006 in Style From Gaslamp Restaurant Soleil@k and ALTITUDE Bar, SoCal’s Highest Open-Air Bar

SAN DIEGO, Dec. 30 /PRNewswire/ — With the countdown already underway to 2006, time is running out for New Year’s Eve celebration options. And once plans are in place, it’s important to make it through the night and welcome the arrival of the New Year with a certain style and panache, says Reggie Parks, manager of Restaurant Soleil@k and ALTITUDE Bar, both at 660 K Street in Downtown’s Gaslamp District.

Soleil@k Restaurant is housed at ground level of the swank San Diego Gaslamp Marriott (Celebrating its one year anniversary today, the Gaslamp Marriott was recognized as ‘Best Hotel’ in the Gaslamp Quarter Association’s 2005 Lamplighter Awards.) ALTITUDE, located on the 22nd floor of the hip hotel, is the region’s highest open-air bar.

Parks, who has launched a total of 16 hotels, bars and restaurants in recent years, including W Hotel San Diego, W Hotel Chicago, Flatotel in New York City, and Mystic Marriott Resort and Spa in Connecticut, explained: “We’ve thrown some phenomenal parties such as the recent ‘Party Like A Rock Star’ Rolling Stones concert celebration so we believe we have a pretty good idea of what it takes to make your night a success.”

Soleil@k and ALTITUDE 8 Key Tips to Celebrate in Good Taste:
1. Dress to impress. It’s New Year’s Eve! Be flashy, but
fashionable — there’s bound to be a digital camera around to catch
any “wardrobe malfunctions.”
2. Keep your ID, money and essentials (cell phones/ cameras) close at
hand. Nothing puts a damper on a night faster than a missing wallet or
3. Indulge, but not to the point that you won’t make it through the
night. Drink water between cocktails, pace yourself and enjoy the
evening’s fancy hors d’oeuvres or dinner spread too.
4. Mix and mingle. Don’t find yourself talking to the same person at the
stroke of midnight, unless you’re sure they are your New Year’s kiss.
5. If you’re single, be sure to make your way over to the person you want
to see more of in 2006 well before the countdown to the New Year
6. If Tips 1-5 don’t apply because you haven’t yet made plans, don’t
panic! Ring in the New Year at Soleil@k (recent star sightings prove
it’s the place to be and be seen). Call Kat at 619-446-6089 to make a
reservation before it’s too late.
7. If the skies are clear, go to the 22nd floor of the Gaslamp Marriott.
There you’ll find Southern California’s highest, hippest sky lounge
and bar, ALTITUDE, which boasts the best 360 degree view of San Diego.
There’s no better place to be at the stroke of midnight.
8. End the night right! Designate a driver, hire a taxi or a limo, or
stay in a hotel near your party destination. Hotel reservations are
still available at many downtown San Diego hotels and the Gaslamp
Marriott has smart room and party packages.

More about Tip 6: Soleil@k is offering a sumptuous five-course dinner that will feature foie gras, vichyssoise, braised quail, seared duck, John Dory and other sinful treats. Guests will also enjoy party favors, and dancing until midnight. Dinner starts at 6:30 p.m. and tickets are $125 per person, which includes dinner, free flowing champagne and dancing.
